I never heard to use brake fluid, that is plain craziness there whoever told you that. Your wheels are probably aluminum is my bet a light gray silver look to them. Best thing to use if some chrome polish, maybe even a rubbing compound or hand glaze it probably won't matter, but brake fluid will eat your clear.

Re: have been told to use some break fuid

I've always used 000 steel wool on chrome rims with a good foaming glass cleaner. Takes hard deposits and light rust right off. Just don't scrub too hard.

Re: have been told to use some break fuid

there's always someone that tips in their nonsence that deals with nothing of the subject.

wont restate the obviously stated. id use stuff thats recomended for the use and thats all, no reason to be cheap and make problems worse.

Re: have been told to use some break fuid

damn thats some bad typing....

Using brake fluid on your rims will eat the clear, and any other paint that is on there.

Now if it is a steel wheel, well you will see the steel, and you wont get it to polish or 'look chrome' easily.

If they are aluminum rims, then you will be seeing the bare aluminum. That aluminum can be polished to a mirror shine, which will resemble chrome, it wont be chrome. Spraying some clear over your polished rim will make it look more dull, or have more of a flat finish.

Chrome wont show up either, they are referring to polishing a wheel, and it will take a hell of a lot more than a piece of 400 grit sandpaper to 'look chrome'. Its not like all wheels are chromed then painted .

Chrome is not the same as polished aluminum either, chrome is a metal coating, not a color.

Re: have been told to use some break fuid

Don't use brake fluid. Also you can use 0000 steel wool on chrome rims. I even use it to clean my windows inside and out, makes them smooth and gets any overspray off of them. I even used it to polish of the surface rust on my shifter.
