Gummy 1st gen steering wheel
I have a steering wheel that has turned gummy. The vehicle sat in the socal desert since 1989. I thought the gummy stuff was the scum that plastic wheels get from sweaty hands, but it seems to be the material turning gummy and sticky. Anyone dealt with a problem like this before? Can I just ignore it and cover it up with a lace-on cover?

Re: Gummy 1st gen steering wheel
I've seen that problem before, but I thought it was just because the owner smoked and had gummy hands... ewww grossness !
hahaha... anyway I remember trying to clean it with some wax&grease remover and that helped a bit, but didn't get it back to original by any means. Might be worth looking into buying a new wheel, if something billet is out of your price range check out some other wheels made by Grant. |

Thanks for the info. I will prolly cover it for now until a wheel comes my way. B-dog of it is I just sold a complete steering column with wheel. I have heard Amorall will leave vinyl dried out if you don't keep using it. Mebbie I will try that. |

Re: Gummy 1st gen steering wheel
Order a nice wheelskins cover for it. If you take the time & do it exactly as the directions say, & pull each thread tightly, it will look factory. I put one on mine just to protect my leather steering wheel. Everyone thinks it is factory. Looks very nice & you can order it in one color or two tone on ebay.
