Re: engine detailer
I've found that tire shine (Meguiars NXT Insane-Shine) works better at repeling dust than Armor-All.

Re: engine detailer
I use GUNK engine degreaser, spread it around with a paint brush and let it sit for 15 min. Power wash it off, dry everything, then I use a silicone spray to shine up all the hoses and black plastics. It looks great and hold up for a while.
![]() i still need to try that blue magic stuff and polish my A/C stuff. |

Re: engine detailer
i would pressure wash everything under my hood (of course, cover the ignition components, like my optispark on my vette) then i would armor all under the hood and then spray my wheel wells with tire shine stuff. looked good parked at the car wash.... i did the wheel wells on my 95 black on black c4

Re: engine detailer
I now use a water based dressing.
I use silicone dressing every now and then, but it tends to pick up dust and dirt quicker. |

Re: engine detailer
Gunk Engine Degreaser for the first initial cleaning....the stuff will stink for a few days.
then follow up every other wash with Orange Blast and Armor All Tire Foam before/after And I never had issues with dust.... ![]() ![]() |

Re: engine detailer
Yep I use GUNK Engine Degreaser aswell, waste the can on it and let it sit a good 15-20 mins... then Presherwash it down for a clean clean clean engine
![]() We have a hotwater presherwasher, and it takes all the crap off with the heat on. Cold water doesn't give such a great result, but it still cleans it up |

Re: engine detailer
I use GUNK Engine Degreaser too to remove the dirt/grime. But thats all I use. I hate that silicone junk, especially if im gonna work around the engine bay afterwards. Its a mess when it gets on your hands and makes things slippery.

i used armor all and black magic tire foam on my vette. then tire foamed the wheel wells. i dont think anything that drastic needs to be done on our trucks.

Re: engine detailer
Like mentioned earlier, if you use GUNK engine degreaser be ready for a petroleum like smell for about a week. I could handle it but some people might get nauseas after a while

Re: engine detailer
I always use simple green automotive. Spray it down good then let it sit a few and hose it off. Then i let it dry and spray everything down with CD2 engine detailer. I have had great success with this method. Everything can be found at autozone. first 2 pics are w/o and next 3 are with the CD2

Re: engine detailer
When you spray off the engine, what do you do? I am afraid of getting water in the alternator and messing it up...or the computer.
Is there a good method where you just wipe it down? I was thinking of using those interior wipes as I don't feel very comfortable spraying the engine and ruining the electronics. |

Re: engine detailer
what i always do (and was told) is to warm up the engine some, not to full temp but just warm. wash your engine do all that stuff and after your done washing start the truck and let it idle. the heat from the engine will help dry off all the water (around the engine of course)and either way the auto manufactures seal all the electronics so water cant get inside. ever pop your hood after you went though a deep puddle? now just because the electronics have a water seal on them doesn't mean you can get a pressure washer at point blank and fire right on the computer and not expect something to go wrong, but if you dont want to get the computer wet at ALL you can get a trash bag and just cover the computer or anything you dont want to get wet. |

Re: engine detailer
i always use a bag to cover my air filter, then i spray it down. of course, i do have a cheap ass ricer cone filter. in my vette, i had to tuck a bug to cover the optispark so it wouldnt render my vette immobile. never have worried about the alt since that big bunch of bare wires you see through the vents dont have large amounts of electricity pulsating through them. if i remember correctly, a generator (altenators in our case) use AC. so polarity wont really matter in this case. but leaving the alt, its DC which is polarized.

Re: engine detailer
I swear by Maxima SC1. Is a silicone spray, you pretty much just spray it on wait a minute or 2 and wipe it off with a shop towel, or terry cloth. Go to your local motorcycle shop and see if they carry Maxima products and the stuff is called SC1.
