engine de-greaser = rim cleaner...?

i was at work and my rims were dirty so i tried some engine degreaser on them (polished aluminum) and it worked REALLY good. it also did a great job cleaning the white letters on my tires. my question however is does anyone think this stuff could harm my wheels/tires? its pretty strong stuff.

I don't trust any cleaner type sprays on any of my rims. I've seen to many rims turned to shlt because guys tried some cleaners on them.

Regular water and car wash to clean them, then the correct polish to shine them up.

Re: engine de-greaser = rim cleaner...?

we use a general all purpose degreaser at my shop - if you cut an engine degreaser enough with water - you shouldnt have problems but i would atleast cut it 1:3 - just make sure non of your cleaners contian any form of acid- thats when you loose the shine! and putting on a good coat of polish every month or so will keep you from havin to use a degreaser and prolong the life of your rims
