Engine Compartment Cleaner

Anyone know what the detailing guys at the dealerships use to clean the engine compartments up with, and where I could get some? I have used armoral since I got the truck, but after looking at used trucks yesterday, I noticed they have used some stuff that makes it look 10 times better. Anyone know what it is, and where to get some?

Re: Engine Compartment Cleaner

I always have used No Touch Tire Foam. Wait till the engine is cool then hose everything down with the foam let it sit for 5 minutes or so then use a hose to wash it off. Wait till it's somewhat try then give it another foam bath followed by wiping everything down.

Re: Engine Compartment Cleaner

mureodic acid... trust me it works. you can get it at any boating supply store. dillute it using one gallon of acid to two and 1/2 gallons of water... spray on 3 times then hose off. works really well just keep the car wet and DO NOT get any acid on the windows.

Re: Engine Compartment Cleaner

Do I need to keep the engine compartment wet, and if it messes up the windows, what's it going to do to the wire loom, wire, ect in the engine bay?

Re: Engine Compartment Cleaner

The pro's use Meguairs Hyperdressing, makes the engine compartment better than new. The problem is that because it's a professional detailer product you have to buy enought product to do a few hundred engine compartments. This place in AZ re-packages their detailer line products into smaller bottles and for less money - http://www.autodetailingsolutions.com/index.htm

That's just the dressing to make it shiny and new, to wash, engine degreaser is very caustic and poisonous to pets so I go to the local coin-op car wash, dump in $2 and set it to engine degreaser mode and have at it, works well and by the time I get home it's dry and ready for Hyperdressing.

Re: Engine Compartment Cleaner

Thanks. all. I ended up using some regular old tire foam, an dit cleaned up pretty nice. I'll have to check into the other sugestions, but was on a time crunch with having to travel for work this week and get to the nationals tomorow.

Re: Engine Compartment Cleaner

I use Scrubbing Bubbles. Works pretty good, but the best I used as far as off the shelf
was STP engine cleaner spray. That works GOOD, just stinks. Scrubbing Bubbles doesn't,
but will kind of flat out the alum a bit.

Re: Engine Compartment Cleaner

I work at a Chevy dealership as a detailer and I just use degreaser (any engine degeaser) and a scrub brush. Also glass cleaner (with ammonia) must have it and that usually eats most of it off. After you have cleaned it hit it with tire shine. Clean the windows after, assuming you didnt use tire foam (which I would recommend).

Re: Engine Compartment Cleaner

at work we'de always use purple power and a pressure washer, and take acid to any unpainted metal that was dull or dirty. Always remeber to keep your fenders wet when you do it, dont let that shit sit on your paint cause then you'll have to buff it out.
