I suggest using CD-2 engine detailer. they sell it at autozone for $3.99 can...Works great, makes your engine look like new..when I get to the car wash, I spray CD-2 on the engine...wash the truck and before I get done i rise the engin off...and thats all i do. looks great everytime.

If it's just dusty I would use some no touch tire foam then wipe it down.

And for the road grime I like Simple Green. It degreases well (especially oposum) and doesn't cost an arm and a leg, smells good to!

I use Cd-2 engine cleaner and then CD-2 engine detailer, and keep extra detailer around for touch ups...

don't clean your engine while it's running/hot...water and heat make steam and steam can get into places that water can't...cover up your alternator, distributor, and w'e else you don't want to get wet with a plastic bag or just be careful and don't blast water into it

i just wait until my engine is cool them spray engine degreaser on it let it set for 10 - 15 min then i rinse off the motor with water then spray tire foam over my motor. then let it set for 30 min or so then drive around for awhile then the heat off the motor spreads all the tire dressing evenly.

DON'T USE COKE to clean your engine, Coke removes any paint you leave it on and your water wont get all of it off even if you spray it... I have found the best way to clean your engine is to go buy you some Meguires Degreaser, Some Engine Dressing and a Shop-Vac and some plastic bags.

Load all up and go on down to the DIY car wash, Bag off your alternator, and intake filters (if you have one, stock is fine) spray your engine down with the car wash engine & tire cleaner let it sit for 30 seconds and then rinse it.. Spray it with your Degreaser and then use the rinse again, after spray it down with your dressing and spray it down with the spot-free rinse really lightly to make sure you got all the degreaser and cleaner, Use the Shop-Vac to dry the engine off (SO that dust will not stick to it so easy because of it being wet), Then switch it to suck so u can suck up any dust/leaves or anything in the cracks of the engine bay.. this will give your engine a good shine..
