Engine bay clean up ideas

I have seen alot of nice engine bays on this forum, and I was wandering how most of you guys are relocating mostly everything and making the bays look so clean of wires and just the normal clutter? I know of relocating the battery, but how do you guys do the cpu, fuse box and all the other crap? And I have searched and have found minimal.

Re: Engine bay clean up ideas

Here are some pics of mine... i relocated the fusebox to the core support using the factory abs bracket, i have removed the abs pump completely, relocated computer to where factory blower box used to be, recessed the radiator into the core support, removed stock fan, and added an electric fan, cavi style intake manifold, and soon to be gone are the heater lines.

When i bodydrop the truck, the computer and fusebox will be relocated to behind the dash.

but i have already removed all the pointless things on my truck, and cut and taped the wires off, or removed them completely from the main harness, most of my engine harness is tucked behind the motor so its not too visible.

Re: Engine bay clean up ideas

i dont have any pics of my setup, but i just mounted the ECU on the frame so it was standing up, then turned the abs module, left battery in the same spot and mounted the fuse box off the core support

I like how you dont have that big heap of plastic anymore above the head, is that the cavi style intake your talking about? It really looks good. That is what my project is going to be this winter. As of now I have just this huge nest of wires and its growing with more things that get done to my truck. Its starting to look horrible. What did you do with all of your resovors? like the windshiled fluid, and dexcool resovors?

Re: Engine bay clean up ideas

ditch the windshield resevoir, and you can just get a smaller coolant tank

i ditched all that stuff, dont have a washer fluid tank or the lines or pump to that,i also dont have a coolant overflow bottle or any of that stuff. never had a problem with it...

and yea, thats a cavalier intake manifold you see in the pics. many people with bodydrops run these so you dont have to cut the hood out for the intake..

Re: Engine bay clean up ideas

I will look into that cavi mod, does it add any benifits (performance wise? or is it mainly just for clearance issues and will it work for a 03) I have to have some of the resevoir, due to my methanol injection kit is hooked through one of them, but I can always modify it. did you cut most of your fender off also for the tires? Thats another reason why it looks so open.

it doesn't add any power or anything, its just for dress up/hood clearance...

and yes, my fenders are cut to lay 20's, there is hardly no skelaton left of it, and the fender lips are cut flush also...

and williambriggs i used the stock computer "basket" as i would call it, and ran some small self tapping screws into it, and then snapped the computer into place. i did not have to extend any wiring on it, but my harness is ran behind the motor, and all the things i dont need have been cut off and taped up, and re loomed.

hmm imma have to check if mine still has the factory bracket attached..if not i might have to go to the junkyard...so after u deleted everything u just traced the wiring back into the harness and snipped it off and taped the ends and reloomed it? like the abs plugs and shit right? how do u recess the radiator? i have an electric fan just havent put it in yet. sorry for all the questions lol heres what mine looks like right now

When i deleted things such as ABS, hood pissers, hood light,EGR, DRL, AHL, airbags and airbag sensors, and the airbag module, i traced the wires back to the fuse panel and relay box, and took them completely out of the harness, and removed the fuses and every trace of it, on stuff like egr, i just snipped the plug off, and crimped some caps on the end, then put it back in the loom. I have reloomed most of my factory harness as there were things that I didn't need in there..

and recessing the radiator, only thing i can tell you there is cut out the radiator support until the radiator fits inside the core support. im going to take some more pics on how I did mine when i get a chance and actually remember to do it. check this thread for the radiator ideas... http://www.s10forum.com/forum/f105/f...-2-2-a-410143/

let me know if you need any more help or anything, im always around

oh shit u deleted everything lol. i just removed abs, a/c, smog pump, hood pissers, and coolant overflow. so maybe ill just trace back and snip whatever wiring for that shit and cap them off. got a link to these crimp caps i dont think i ever seen those before? imma mess with the radiator later i did search a little for that last night. so im pretty sure i get the idea on recessing that. and i already have an electric fan to put in.

check that frenched radiator thread again, i just added some more pics to it...

and yea, i deleted ALL the stuff i didn't need. and i still have to delete the heater lines here soon, but that should be about it... ahaha..

and here are the wire caps similar to what i use, instead of tape ripping or something i use these so the wire has no chance of sparking or shorting out..

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-VuB3b1c...rimp-Caps.html

then i just put some bigger loom on in some areas, but most of the time the stock loom will be fine.

hope that helps man, let me know if you need any pics or help on anything, im pretty good with all this stuff, ive done so much of it, its like second nature
