Engine Bay??
What is a good way to clean the engine bay and rid of the oil. Plus what do you put on the engine after you clean it to make it look like new. I'm talking about the stuff the dealerships use on their engines to make them get the new look shine.

Re: Engine Bay??
I use Simple Green or any degreaser for most engines, if they're really dirty I'll use some Whit Wall Cleaner (works great for really grimy areas and of course white walls). Then I pressure wash the whole thing and dress with P&S Shine-All and wipe the jam down. Run the car for 5-10 minutes so the dressing bakes on, final wipe it ands it looks like new

Simple Green is some amazing stuff. I use Scrubbing Bubbles
and it workspretty good too. I can use it here at the house and not worry about the neighbors when I rinse it off..Makes it smell purty too... ![]() |

Re: Engine Bay??
don't use tin foil.. tin foil it can cause a arc and toast you comp. I hit mine with a pressor blaster every couple of months and have never had a problem(well except for my factory battery cover dryrotted and the lables peeled off my fan shroud)

Re: Engine Bay??
To get my engine compartment looking like new I actually just take a trash bag and cover the intake first then I spray the entire motor down with Meguiars Hot Wheels wheel cleaner because you know how great those wheel cleaners eat brake dust well it cleans your motor compartment just as good as long as you don't have 5yrs of grease and oil built up. Spray the cleaner and then just hose it off and it is nice and clean and then like everyone else some armor all on all the black shit under the hood.

Re: Engine Bay??
well tire foam won't hurt it. I don't why people are saying not to use it, but keep in mind dust is going to stick faster to anything that's has oil on it.
I shoulddn't tell people this because I have no idea of what it does to an engine, but I've never had any issues with it on older engines,,,, so here you go. if your engine is really crusty EASY-OFF over cleaner works. spray it on at home, throw some ramps in the truck so you can get under the truck real good, drive to the car wash, and blast it off |

Re: Engine Bay??
If you use a good quality tire shine, dust wont stick to it. A good tire shine is less oily, and actually penitrates the rubber/plastic and restores it finish, not just dress the outside of it.
I've had the motor on ym Sunfire done for about 2 weeks and have drive down a pretty dusty dirt road everyday, and I have minimal dust stickage... |

Re: Engine Bay??
I havn't done my engine in 3-4 weeks now and there is very minimal build up. Still VERY clean. Plus when I run the hose over it next bath it will all come off nice and clean. |

Re: Engine Bay??
what are you useing because I used that tire foam and it was real oily and collected dust faster. I found the penziol tire dressing wasn't oily, but I'm lazy and really hate hand dressing my engine. |

Re: Engine Bay??
I'm use Meguiars NXT Insane Shine ( got it free from them in the mail, lol ). I'd used it on my tires and was impressed by how it soaked into my tires and gave them a newer look, not just a sprayed on wet look. After using it for 3 or so weeks my tires looked brand new again. So, because of that I figured it would be perfect to do the same thing to my hoses/plastic. And it has!

Re: Engine Bay??
lol i use that cheaper aresol can stuff thast like around $2.50 a can. works really well cuz i used it last year on my truck and all i haveta do is whipe it down everyso often... this is the kind of tire shine that goes into the rubber and restores it a bit... just spray ti on and let it sit for an hour or so and you shouldnt have to whipe much if any off.

Re: Engine Bay??
I've also found that if you wash the motor down, dry it, apply the tire shine, let the motor run for 10-15 mintes, then wipe it down and re apply the tire shine, it seems to 'bake on' the shine...
