Ihave steam cleaned, shampooed and soaked the interior with febreeze but can never get it to stay "fresh" smelling. What works?

Re: eliminating odors

clean the inside of your windows. odors can get stuck to the windows and cause the truck to smell bad.

Re: eliminating odors

Febreeze sucks, i've used it a few times and all it did was make my clothes smell like it when i was done driving and it mixed with all of the other horrible smells and just made things worse. I just try to clean everything every few weeks to keep it from getting bad. Simple green usually leaves a nice plesant smell after you use it.

+1 also it smells like ass when you spray the interior then let it sit outside in the hot sun.

Re: eliminating odors

When I bought back my Blazer from the girl that had it, it had a bad odor from some food that spilled and spoiled and soaked into the carpet and seat. She tried different cleaners and all that stuff, but it would only mask the odor, not remove it. I'm lazy, so I just dropped it off and had it detailed, they completely removed the odor.

Re: eliminating odors

Try Putting vinegar in a small container on the floor overnight with the windows rolled up. You would not believe how much crap that stuff absorbs. You will have a hint of vinegar smell the next day in the truck. It goes away with some window down driving. I used this method to get a nasty smoke smell out of a few cars. Repeat process a few times. Hope this helps.

Re: eliminating odors

Detail the thing I detail mine every month or 2 (its free cuz i work there and do it myself) but after you have someone or you yourself have removed the origin of the smell you can try a place that uses an ozone machine, we have one. They shoot neutral particles of ozone into the interior of the car and work on an atomic level. It's a natural way to permanently removed odors.(only works after it has been cleaned.) Just put it in and hang it so its not near any vinil or interior pieces and let it sit for about 4 hours with the windows up. Roll 'em down and it'll be fine.

Re: eliminating odors

Besides, if you have it professionally detailed they usually restore that new car smell. I don't know about you guys but I love that smell! It sure beats any other smells. Thankfully the guy who owned my truck prior to me took good care of it and kept food and smoke out of it. I carry on that habit today. Still smells new to this day!

Re: eliminating odors

If all else fails, try removing the carpet and roof liner and clean them outside the car. Use soap and hot water and let throughly dry in the sun and reinstall.

Re: eliminating odors

A trick my detail shop used to do was a small dehumidifier in the car, and spraying febreze/anti bacterial in the ac intake, (engine running, ac on fresh/vent and spray in the vents under your wipers). Bacteria grows, and stinks in there. Its usually dead leaves and crap that gets in there. This method kills off anything in the vents too.

Re: eliminating odors

I usually have a couple of dryer sheets under my seats.

If my truck smells, they cover it up and make it "Rain Fesh", lol

Ozone machines are amazing. If you can find a place that has one or feel like spending 500 or more for one then use it. If you were closer i'd let you use mine. the thing works awesome. just dont sit in the car while its on, the ozone kills EVERYTHING.
