Re: Dirty engine!
Spray the living hell out of it with SimpleGreen. Like a whole bottle of it. Then get the motor hot then spray it down at a car wash pressure washer.
I did my whole engine compart ment which was never done in the 5 years Ive had it and it cleaned it big time. |

Re: Dirty engine!
Here's what I do......Go to the local "wash it yourself" place and I use the wheel cleaner spray. I don't cover anything up. I just try not to spray any of the main harnesses or relays directly. Then I use the pressure washer to rinse. Damn thing looks brand spankin new.

Re: Dirty engine!
The main thing to not to blast and get soaked is the distributor and electrical system.

Re: Dirty engine!
I used this stuff and was amazed at how clean the engine came out. I let the engine warm
a bit, then shut it down, covered all the electrics with plastic shopping bags and tied off with string, like the ALT, DIST, and ABS box along with the air cleaner as it was an open element. Sprayed this stuff on and waited for 20 or 30 minutes, then hosed off. Came out pretty darn clean for no elbow grease. I've also tried the REAL Scrubbing Bubbles and it works pretty good too + makes the engine compartment smell good, but doesn't work as good as this STP foam engine degreaser..> ![]() I know this is going to sounds nuts, but it seems my ole ride runs better once it's been cleaned up in the engine compartment... |

^^^^helps it run cooler when stuff isnt baked on and also you probably got some grit out of moveable parts. ive heard that stuff will eat away and seals and gaskets over time tho so u ont wanna use too much. but it does work good.

Re: Dirty engine!
Heres what ya do, get soem cleaner, and spray it down, then use a pressure washer and wash it very very good. Get it and start the truck up so the water dosent get into the carborator, or anything. Then ocne it dries, get clear coat and spray everything, for that new shiney look. Car dealers use this junk they wipe in there, and it makes the engine goopy looking.

Re: Dirty engine!
I'll let you guys in on a detailers' secret, if you want to have it look brand new again, warm the enging(not hot), then spray scrubbing bubbles all over (use common sense here) and let it sit, hose off and let dry. Might have to do it twice if its really dirty. After its all dry, then spray tire shine of your choice, the kind that you spray and don't have to wipe, all over (still using common sense) and your engine bay will look like it came off the showroom floor. The reason scrubbing bubbles is better than those engine degreasers is because it will not harm the rubber hoses which harsh engine degreasers will and can turn them white. Try it, you'll see.

Re: Dirty engine!
I remember something that guy on TRUCKS ! said. If you're planning on going off roading
spray the fender wells, tires, and anything else you want to get easily cleaned again with Armor All wheel shiny BEFORE you go out on the dirt. He said when you come back it'll be so much easier to just spray off the crap.. ![]() |
