Details on Detailing/First Show

I am about to enter my first show and I need to know if there are any secrets or tricks on detailing the dime. I don't have a perfect paintjob or rims. Just are there places that are easily overlooked that i need to be aware of? Thanks

Re: Details on Detailing/First Show

This sounds really dumb but honestly the secret is making it as clean as possible in every aspect. From the paint, interior, wheels, engine bay, frame etc. Take your time, use good products and go over everything.

Also, not everyone has perfect paint jobs. Just make the paint you have look its absolute best.

Wash and wax the truck like you normally would. Take to the show a spray detailer and microfiber cloth for the body, window cleaner, tire cleaner(but not tire foam), then what ever you need to clean your interior and engine and rims.

Re: Details on Detailing/First Show

scrub ur wheel wells if have them still. use a brush to dust ur interior crevaces. use new paper to clean ur widows (doesnt leave lint). degreaser for the engin bay. u can tire shine or armorall under the hood but itll make it harder next time. when u get there scope out ur spot. for the duration of the show chsnge up the stance of ur truck sides now, laid later, itll keep em lookin. dont let anyone sit in ur truck itll give it that prestigous feel. move all ur cleaning supplies out of the vehicle after ur done. get to know who the judges are. watch and listen to them judge other vehicles. listen to what they like and exploit it. ex. they like bags! hit some mad sides when the start judging then open all the doors and hood and give them space. dont be over there shoulder. if they are comfortable the will stay longer

Re: Details on Detailing/First Show

invest in a california duster and some qwik detailer for the dust and disrepectful truck touchers. remove anything easily removable that sets u apart from the judges. like ur graduation tassle. they might not have fond memories of high school lol. bottom side of the hood. (its above ur head but they might look)

ps. dont thank a soldier thank a marine

Re: Details on Detailing/First Show

Just do as you normally would, clay the truck, maybe use some Meguiars Scratch X if you'ver got clear-coat scratches, some swirl remover (Poorboys SSR-2 should be good for hand buffing), then couple good coats of wax. Just go over everything, make sure you get every little nook and cranny. Even in the lug nuts and such, spray degreaser on the wheels and use a small sponge to reach inside the lugnut holes, it makes everything a helll of a lot easier.
And yeah, take some Quick Detail spray with you, along with some MF towels. And even if the truck is spotless, you've got something to keep you busy lol

Re: Details on Detailing/First Show

Really most judges do look at just about everything, so try to get everything as clean as possible. Not everyone has tons of cash or the skills to do a lot of custom work but most everyone can clean their ride. Most competitions actually account for this so if you don't have a lot of mods you would probably put into a "mild" class but no matter what class your in or how crazy the work is on your truck it probably won't be recognized unless it's clean. Some simple tips would be to keep some good detail spray at hand along with microfiber towels and every so often give the truck a spray and wipe down. This will keep all the prep cleaning\polishing\waxing looking good.

Re: Details on Detailing/First Show

I think everyone covered about everything...,
I would like to add, if you can even find it- Meguiars Engine Kote
Use it under your hood and your fender wells. It makes everything look new and lasts a long time.
It is my favorite product from Meguiars..., but they had been takling about discontinuing it, so get it if you can

it sounds similar to"Pig Spit", which is marketed for bikes, but I use it on my stuff under the hood, fenderwells etc.. My dad uses it on his harley too.
http://www.pigspit.com/pigspit.html

As for tire shine...some stuff is way too glossy and you should aim for the natural or "new" look.

Re: Details on Detailing/First Show

I have not seen the Pig Spit, but have seen the Pig Snot.

There are litterally 10's of 1,000's of products out there and I hear of at least 1 new product every day of the week.

There are only about 9 or so manufacturers that actually produce detailing supplies, the rest of the stuff is "private labeled", that is the reason so much of it is very similar in nature, most are basically the same with very little difference in performance.
The biggest difference is in the color and smell.
There are only a handfull of products I have tested that really stand out and are in a catagory by themselves.
