Cleaning Tires, Not rims

I have about cleaning the tires NOT RIMS. You know how when you buy a new vehicle the tires are all shiney and stuff, well i was wondering what they use to do that? I know there are stuff at Autozone and stuff, but those don't work that well. I was also wondering would Baby Oil work on the tires? I know my uncle uses baby oil to make his tires on his race car shiney, but i wasnt sure if those tires are made of the same compound since he races on dirt, and strictly dirt..So would that work on my tires too?

I have never heard of using baby oil on the tires...I just use Armor All Extreme Shine, that gets them all shiny and black until the first rain then I have to do it all over again!!! lol

Well when we put the baby oil on we spray it on, then wipe over it and ir looks really nice, and it usually lasts a couple of races and still comes back pretty shiney....and he runs on dirt so they have the chance to get really dirty but it never does....

Re: Cleaning Tires, Not rims

I might have to give that a try....sounds like a good idea! I don't see any reason why it would be bad for "our" tires....it is really all the same rubber...........

Re: Cleaning Tires, Not rims

well are your tires looking like they are just always dirty? like there is dirt that just never seems to go away?
what i use is this stuff fro wal*mart or autozone and its like a tire cleaner that is mostly bleach.comes in a white pump spray bottle..hose the tire off, spray this stuff on them, scrub the sh** out of them with a brush and the suds from it should get pretty dirty looking, then wash them off with water. do this like 2 times on each tire then spray on a tire shine(i use turtle wax wet and black but it doesnt last long) or you could use the baby oil to see if that works good.
hope this helps

Re: Cleaning Tires, Not rims

bought some meguires outragous tire shine today. almost too shiney. i also found that laquer thinner works well, just be careful around your wheels but you'll go through a few rags. as for wheel and tire cleaner, the dupont teflon wheel cleaner works REALLY well on tires. spray it on the tire, scrub and rinse. repeat if needed.

i would be afraid of the baby oil spraying up on the truck, that stuff never dries.

Guys,

You do not want to use any solvents, petroleum, oils or other chemicals that can be harmfull to your tires.

Tires by design contain waxes to help prevent dry rot (have you ever noticed tires that sit will dry rot before tires that are driven a lot?
That is because of "blooming"
Wait a minute..., I have a link somewhere..., let me find it..................

http://www.303products.com
Then click "tech info", then go to the tire section. They have a really good write up

like mentioned, use wheel cleaner on the tire, and scrub the daylight out of them. I use "Westleys espree ultra wheel magic". Shit works great on wheels and tires!

Re: Cleaning Tires, Not rims

It's best to clean the tire before applying any dressing to get the brown residue as well as brake dust off. I use Eagle Wheel and Tire cleaner because it's all in one, just spray the entire wheel and tire and scrub both at the same time and rinse. After it dries, spray the rubber with some good tire dressing. I like the kind that foams up like No Touch. I've used Meguiars Insane Tire Shine and Hot Shine but not happy with them. If you are not crazy about the high shine, after it dries a little, knock the shine down by wiping it with a sponge or rag.

I agree..., if you are looking for a local product, Eagle One "A2Z" is going to be hard to beat..., easily found liocal, good price and works great (that is the reason I do not carry a wheel or tire cleaner, as "A2Z" works and for the price, why pay for fancy packaging, advertising or name brands when this can just be picked up cheap at the store

Re: Cleaning Tires, Not rims

Try using some Mean Green or Greased Lightning on the tires. I usually spray that stuff on let it sit a bit and thne scrub them with a brush. And my personal chioce to make tires shiny is Black Magic, seems to work pretty well for me and it takes awhile for the rain and whatnot to wash it away.
