cleaning polished aluminum rims

I have searched and found tips, but I want to know what is the whole process is to cleaning the wheels. They probably haven't had a good cleaning in a while. I just want to know what is good to clean them up real good, like new, and then a good polish. Thanks.

Re: cleaning polished aluminum rims

id spray it off with water to remove any things that could possibly scratch em
get some blue magic at pepboys, for like 4 bux, it works awesome! better than the 15$ mothers shit
dip cloth into it, and spread around wheel until the polish turns black, redip and continue... let it dry for a couple minutes, then get a clean cloth and start buffing, have fun.

Re: cleaning polished aluminum rims

1. wash with water.
2. rub Dupont rubbing compound no.27 on it. this will give it a dull finish when wiped off but will help remove pits and road grime.
3. go to your local truck stop to get a polish called Jewelers Rouge. its in a bottle and is green. its like 8 bucks a bottle but works great. rub this on and let dry. the buff it off with a clean cloth in a circular motion.

this is wat we use on all the aluminum on all the big rigs at my grandfathers yard. been usin this since i was 9. also make sure if you dont use this stuff not to use anything that says mag and aluminum polish. this will screw your wheels and turn them white

Re: cleaning polished aluminum rims

if they are pitted and shitty...wet sand them with 600 first, then wet sand them with 1000, then if you want, go 2000
go get a stick of rouge and a polishing wheel, and power polish them so they turn into mirrors, when thats done, hit them with some aluminum polish and then a good coat of wax

This is how i do the rims on out peterbilts and kenworths at work everyspring, and they come out looking like f'u'c'k'in chrome!

On my eagle 203's i use mothers billet twice a week..of course there isnt a scratch on them, so i dont need to be aggresive with the polishing...but the mothers makes them look unbeleivable

cool the only Jewelers Rouge I have ever seen was sticks and that is what I used to polish out my camaro wheel after sanding them smooth

Re: cleaning polished aluminum rims

you can make your own bottle of that rouge...the secret ingredient is butane (lighter fluid)
i have a bottle that i picked up when i was truckin with my dad down through LA...it works pretty good, but Mothers Billet owns all

Re: cleaning polished aluminum rims

Go ahead and use any billet polish you prefer. I can mention a few products like Speedy and Adam's as good polishes for your rims but what you really should do once you get them clean and gleaming like new is then seal them. You could buy some expensive stuff like Zoops but honestly I've tried it and I'm not sure it was worth the hassle. Check out a Wheel Sealant made by Poorboys that has special properties that resists the high temps and abuse that a wheel sees. It will make the next cleaning/polishing job much easier.

Re: cleaning polished aluminum rims

With brand new billet wheels (or ultimately clean ones), I apply a coat of carnuba wax to the wheel. It doesn't completely seal the wheel or anything, but it sure makes the in-between polishes/cleaning go ALOT easier.

Re: cleaning polished aluminum rims

I Also have a question about cleaning polished wheels. I bought a set of boyd coddington wheels last year. dirt and blemishes are already starting to build up where the spokes meet the lip of the wheel. whats the best way to polish in that tight of an area? Also, would I be able to get my wheels as shiny as chrome?
