Cleaning chrome wheels w/ #0000 steel wool??
ok so ive heard of people using #0000 steel wool on cleaning chrome wheels, since its so fine it wont leave scratches. it will also remove small pits and whatnot. what is the best way to go about this? i bought my wheels used and want to clean them up one good time and then just wash and polish them as usual. just like to hear how some people go about this.
here are the spots im talking about, which are in between the spokes.... ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Re: Cleaning chrome wheels w/ #0000 steel wool??
i use steel wool alone or sometimes i use the foaming glass cleaner.. neither should scatch the wheel if its clean and no rocks are in the steelwool

Re: Cleaning chrome wheels w/ #0000 steel wool??
i did it to clean up my boss 304s.. it worked quite well... what i did was haad a bucket of carwash and soaked the 0000 in it for a bit while i wet the entire wheel.. i then sprayed the wheel with Mequires Hot Rims cleaner and then proceeded to scrub it with the steel wool... took out a LOT of imperfections but there will still be pitting.. it wont get rid of it completely but it will help it out.. afterwards i polished them with mothers chrome polish

Re: Cleaning chrome wheels w/ #0000 steel wool??
Use 000 or 0000 steel wool only with some kind of lubricant such as glass cleaner or something similar. When done, polish them up by hand or a mothers power ball and then seal them with a wheel sealer such as Poor Boys wheel sealant. The sealer will keep dirt and brake dust from ever sticking to them and when they get dirty just get the hose out and spray the dirt right off.

Re: Cleaning chrome wheels w/ #0000 steel wool??
Yes, it works for chrome wheels, bumpers, glass, etc. Just use some kind of glass cleaner or such to prevent scratching. You can do it dry but I usually use something as to not take a chance.
