ClayMagic Clay bar... WOW!

just like the title says... i used this on my truck... it cleans the clearcoat really well. takes out swirls, oils, bugs, tar, etc. without harming the clear coat like buffers do. i put on a good coat of meguires cleaner wax after i was done with the claybar and man does that paint shine! 9 year old paint looks brand new! i def. recommend it to anyone.

i bought it for 15$ at autozone... they also had a meguires brand kit for a few more dollars.

Re: ClayMagic Clay bar... WOW!

wow, has the price gone up on them lately? i paid 10 bucks for the kit at autozone a few months back.

i bought it for my dads truck around the first of summer, a crew was painting at his work one day, painting buildings with spray guns (like those wagner guns i guess) and it was really windy, and they got overspray all over all of the vehicles in the parking lot, well they agreed to pay for all of the vehicles being fixed, but my dad was like f it, i'll do it myself before i have someone else touchin my truck...well his version of "do it myself" meant me doing it, so i went and picked up that brand, over the mothers claybar, and i put it on, and it worked awesome, i need to go over my truck, just haven't really had the ambition too lately....cause i dread waxing it...

Re: ClayMagic Clay bar... WOW!

the clay bars also work on overspray and flawout from trees, whenever you wash your truck use the clay after you sray the soap of its quiker and you cover more of the truck in less time.

Section 3:Clay baring the vehicle

After evaluating your paint, you’ll probably notice some fine bumps or roughness to your paint. This is dirt, deposits, acid rain, etc. All the elements that fall out of the sky and stick to your paint. Washing won’t remove them. Polishing can, but this debris once removed can scratch during the polishing process. Probably the best way to remove these deposits, is with a clay bar.

What you will need for the job…

Paint Cleaning Clay – The clay, when rubbed on your paint with a lubricant, will pick up these deposits and embed them in the clay, all while keeping scratching to a minimum. There are several different grades of clay. Some work more efficiently then others, but can be harsh on your paint. It’s best to go with a medium to gentler grade of clay.

Speed Shine – Similar to a “quick detailer” Speed Shine is an excellent lubricant for the clay. This prevents the clay from sticking to the paint while you are cleaning

Micro fiber Towel – Used to dry the Speed Shine. Micro fiber is an excellent material due to its incredibly small fiber strand and ability to lift dirt off the surface of your vehicle. 100% cotton is also an acceptable cloth to use on a painted surface.

Procedure:
Work a small section (approximate 2 square feet) at a time. Spray a good coat of speed shine on the section. Take a piece of clay and roll it into a ball. It should be about the size of a golf ball. Place the clay on the vehicle and begin to rub. The clay should glide across the surface. You may feel some friction if your paint is really dirty. Excessive friction is usually caused by not enough lubricant. Work the section until the paint feels smooth and clean of debris. If the clay is getting dirty, fold the clay in and roll it back into a ball. You should be able to do the entire vehicle with this one piece of clay. If you should happen to drop it on the ground, Throw It Away. After you are finished claying, dry the vehicle off with the micro fiber towel. The Speed Shine should buff off very easily and leave you with a smooth surface to polish.

Here is a video demonstrating the clay bar process…

Yes. They sell some sort of a Clay Bar, it usually comes with a lube but if it doesn't you can use Meguires Quick Detailer or a similiar product. They also carry Microfiber towels.

Re: ClayMagic Clay bar... WOW!

It really doesn't matter what brand clay you use. Theres only two different types, as they are both patented.

Clay won't remove swirls, it just removes contaminants from the paint, like rail dust, overspray, tree sap etc...

Funny you say that, I just heard something while I was in P&S the other day

AutoMagic had the origonal patent, all the others expired and now AutoMagic has taken back clay, so from now on it's going to be made by one company. I don't know how true it really is but I'd like to find out

Re: ClayMagic Clay bar... WOW!

That would explain why most of the clay I've seen recently is made by automagic (purple/blue bars) and not yellow. lol

No he's 100% wrong. No clay will remove swirls nor have I ever seen a clay manufacturer claim that it does.

Re: ClayMagic Clay bar... WOW!

Can't beat a clay bar....This is what I did to my truck..

Washed with dawn dishsoap to strip all wax off of vehicle. Pull it into the garage and dry it off. Let the paint cool down. I then clay bar'd the vehicle with the mothers kit.

I then washed it again with meguiars crystal wash, and pulled it into the garage to dry again.

I then hit it with a meguiars 3 stage, followed by NXT tech wax.

This took all sorts of overspray and sap off my hood from my buddies shop.
