Clay Bar and Wax Question

I debadged today and unfortuneately found my paint had faded so I have decided to claybar and wax the truck. My questions are do I claybar over or around the giant ugly Zrx decals, same with wax, over or around?

Ya.. I know.. lower it.

Re: Clay Bar and Wax Question

Why not just remove them, and then give the truck a good polishing and then wax?

Re: Clay Bar and Wax Question

I may look at them closer and see how hard it would be to remove them, I'm hesitant though, when I got hit I believe it was $170 to replace the decal, so if I screw up or dont like it thats an expensive mistake.

Re: Clay Bar and Wax Question

when i had vinyl decals on my first car when i was 16, i waxed right over top of them. just take a rubber point or tooth pick and go around the edge of the deal after you are done waxing to get the white residue off

Re: Clay Bar and Wax Question

Im sure you'll like it after you remove it. And then with a clay bar, polish and wax you'll like it more, lol.

Re: Clay Bar and Wax Question

you will prolly like it a lot better if you take them off, i dont think they would clear over a decal

Re: Clay Bar and Wax Question

If your going to leave the decals you can wax over them(I'd actually recommend that) but I wouldn't claybar over them. It might harm the color or something, so just to be safe, go around them.

Re: Clay Bar and Wax Question

I've decided to leave them.

I see it this way, if you were dating a hot chick but she had a weird birth mark you wouldnt care, so why would I care about my truck. Besides its unique and with only a handful being made I would feel bad taking them off.

Got mecguiars crystal carwash claybar and 3 step wax this morning, but I have a meeting to go to so all the shenanigans will be postponed until this afternoon.

Re: Clay Bar and Wax Question

Yup, thats black...I used to have an 80 MGB that would do that. My dads dark green caddy can reflect like that too, when it's shined up.

Re: Clay Bar and Wax Question

i wash my car real good by hand, clay it, wax it, and then use a Quik detailer after its all done, it doesnt get any better each time but it does make it shine like crazy. i hae a ton of bad swirl marks and rough spots from the car being 7 years old and having 133k miles on it, and i drive a lot on the freeway so its plenty knicked up. using a polishing compound and a buffer would help a lot in my situation. The only reason I use my clay so much is because after it gets dirty again I know how well it can shine up so a hand wash is never good enough anymore, hence the multiple clay barrings a week lol
