Anyonone have a successful method of getting the cigarette stink out of your truck ? The guy I bought my 95 dime from was a puffer.

Re: cigarette stink

Steam clean the crap out of it. That's really the best way. Any sprays will simply mask the odor. You can put a dryer sheet in the truck, which will absorb the odors in the air, but really you need to get rid of the source of the problem...which is mostly down in the upholstry, carpet, headliner, etc...

Re: cigarette stink

take out the seats, clean those. Febreeze them. vacuum the carpet and headliner, febreeze it, and leave the doors open on a breezy day as long as you can.

febreeze it again and put everything back. It smelled like Febreeze for a full day and it just smelled clean from then on

Re: cigarette stink

An ozone machine is the only way to permanently get rid of the smell. When I get a bad car I just use the one from the local fire department. They are pricey machines. Check around your area, someone may let you use or rent theirs, start with the better detail shops. Masking them with products like Febreeze is a waste of of time and money as its going to only be a temp. "nice" smell. The odor is on very part of the interior, wires, ac ducts, headliner (don't forget this as this is one of the worst, if you can get a new headliner) , seat foam, plastics, everything. You need to wash everything you can get a towel on plus extract every cloth piece.

Re: cigarette stink

I borrowed a steam cleaner from my aunt and it had an upholstery attachment. I steamed my carpet and seat. Good as new! Here is a video off youtube using the same machine I did.

Re: cigarette stink

I agree with wagonproject. I work at a detail shop and we use the ozone machine to get the smoke smell out. I would find the nearest shop and ask them to do it for you. I bet it will work alot better than a steamer, and it is much easier.

Re: cigarette stink

Ionizers work really well for the home, I suppose they'd work well for a vehicle. The one I used had removable plates that had to be wiped down about once a week. A good example of their effectiveness, I smoke, therefore my fingers are smoke stained. After holding my hand in front of an ionizer for 10 seconds the smell was completely gone. Hope this helps.

Re: cigarette stink

I used Tuff Stuff carpet cleaner on everything. I did it 3 times and then left the rear side windows open at night and the windows cracked. Took about 3 weeks to get the smell out but it finally worked.

Re: cigarette stink

i wonder if you could peel the seat covers off the seats and wash them on a gentle cycle in a washer.

Only if you want to sew them back on.

Re: cigarette stink

Put a bowl of vinegar in the driver and passenger floorboards........ dont spill the bowls. Worked on my dead grandma so it should work on anything.

Re: cigarette stink

ya, just steam clean the piss out of it, windex the windows, mirrors and any glass to get all that smokiness off. spray it wit febreeze everywhere, and stuff dryer sheets everywhere, like console, visors, glove box, seat pockets. that should work.

Re: cigarette stink

Walmart had a 4 foot tall unit for around $130. That's been 2 years ago though.
