chrome water marks
for about 5 weeks now, i have had water marks all over my chrome rims. my dad has a motorcycle so i have tried all of his chrome polishers, but none of them have gotten rid of the water marks. they make it sparkle from far away, but when u get close you can clearly see the marks.
so what is the best and safest way to get rid of water marks on chrome rims? thanks steven |

Re: chrome water marks
If they're really are chrome, then I would try using some FINE GRADE steel wool. I did it to mine, when I had them, and never scratched them , or anything, and if I did leave scratches, I couldn't see them. Which means they were EXTREMELY light.

Re: chrome water marks
first clean the rim like normal.
next mist the rim with some windex and like posted above use FINE GRADE steel wool to get the water spots and other crap off the rim. last dry them off and they will look good as new. if you have the patience you can also finish up with a chome polish. I use either Turtle Wax's chrome polish or Meguiar's hot rims chrome polish. makes them shine like crazy... |

Re: chrome water marks
Simple 3 step process bro...
1- Clean rims THOROUGHLY!!! and I mean THOROUGHLY!!! 2- Rub GENTLY with 0000 steel wool... 3- Polish with wax or rim shit of your choice... You may see tiny scratches, but I feel you would be the only one to notice them... |

Re: chrome water marks
polishing compound like what you would use on paint works wonders on chrome/wheels in general

Re: chrome water marks
Werd!...I was gonna suggest that as well, but make sure that the compound you use is ALSO a fine grade compound. You could also try using some wax.

Re: chrome water marks
just use a chrome polish on them. and after awhile you should see some black residu from the polish cleaning the wheels. i had this same problem with my aluminum wheels. and it takes awhile but its worth the effort. cause they will look like new. i would personally use mothers chrome polish. good luck

Re: chrome water marks
Yup, all the above work on chrome.
don't use any kind of abrasive pads on aluminum however |

Re: chrome water marks
That might work as well, but that's more for wheels that are polished, and you need to be careful with those wheel polishes, because some are kind of abrasive, and you don't want o use anything that's TOO abrasive on your chrome wheels.

Re: chrome water marks
I think about any polish would be ok on chrome.
Now Im not sure about buffing compound, but I've used some of it Hell I regulary clean my rims w/ a SOS pad. |

Re: chrome water marks
When I had my chrome Neeper N7's, I used windex+fine grade steel wool.
They were just like the one's on this ford.... Last edited by sykominitrkr : 10-10-2008 at 08:34 PM. |

Re: chrome water marks
i would go with a compound before steel wooling it, steel wool is better for aluminum rims cause the aluminum is a lil more durable then chrome.. steel wooling it might scratch it with very small fine scratches almost like a swirl mark on paint.
