Chrome

I was wondering what a good way to keep chrome clean and shiny was. I heard some people use wax and other use a product with a majority of silicon in it. I live in NJ and from time to time we get some shitty weather follwed by salt and dirt that dosent work to well with chrome parts or wheels for that matter. what works well to protect the finish, while at the same time preventing the buildup of foreign stuff like bugs, dirt, salt, brake dust, ect?

I use Turtle Wax Chrome Polish on my bicycles and chrome odds and ends on my truck . The stuff works pretty good for me.

Re: Chrome

I never polish or protect chrome, I just clean it when it gets bad. I work at a detail center and we have some acid based chrome cleaner that will take rust off and get it real clean and shiny. The stuff is so strong that when my manger spilled some on his foot he was walking around at work for two weeks with house slippers on. I clean my truck once a week and use that on it and have never had any rust probelms and they always shine. Just spray it on and wash it off

Re: Chrome

Keep wax on them. Just like paint or anything else it will protect it far longer than non protected. I polish with flitz but then throw on a nice wax to protect them from the elements. Makes the wheel dust an whatnot come off much easier too.

Re: Chrome

Probably alot cheaper to buy a good fine grain steele wool like 0000 or 00000. Thats what I always used during winter or to get something nasty off. Doesnt scratch them at all, you just have to get a 4 or 5 "0" grade. I would spray with Windex, then go over them with the fine grain, then wipe off. then throw on wax for protection. Usually inbetween doing this, I just use windex for quick clean ups.

Re: Chrome

Dont use a spray wax, there are very diluted and do not offer much protection at all. Go to your local harley dealership and ask for some S100 wax, or you can order it off hawg-wah.com
that stuff is great.

when using a chrome cleaner always wax after you use it. Most good products even suggest this on the container.
