Cool check it out

i decided to cleanup my engine bay again and i wanted to do something about that nasty ac condenser thing, actually i dont know what it called but i polished it. before it was dull and ugly now its nice and shiny. also got a shift knob too and i installed that. i plan on repainting the shifter sometime, or get a B&M shifter.

so...

before (ac thing on the left)

after

and here is the shifter i polished too. when i got it it looked grey instead of polished aluminum, also there we deep gashes on top like someone used it to drag, but i got them out. Just wanted to share.

Re: check it out

Glad you asked! its done with magic.... Blue Magic Metal polish creme. get it at your local autozone or auto parts store.

just wipe some on a rag then polish till it turns black and repeat. its the same stuff i used on my yellow faded headlights and with sanding, brought them to a their factory shine.

it took about 10 minutes to get a noticeable shine but about 30 minutes to get the final product. mostly it took so long is because i wanted to polish every visible spot on that and the spaces were tight. im going to try to polish my ECU today and see how that goes.

I might not have the money to buy stuff for my truck as i would like but im going to make that the cleanest engine bay ever to make up for my lack of $$.

i started on my ECU today and i guess i need a different polish becuase its not working as well. i guess i have to sand the ECU down then try and polish it. if that doesnt work ill try something else.

Re: check it out

the sanding may do the trick. the aluminum of the ECU seems to oxidize and have a really rough surface.

Polished the A/C compressor yet?

My method is using GUNK, comes in a white spray can with an orange cap. spray on the engine bay, wipe around with a paint brush, let it sit 15 min, power wash it off. Dry everything, and let it sit for a while to make sure everything is dry before you start the engine again...

then i shine it up with a silicone spray. it works great on the hoses.

i need to try this blue magic stuff on my A/C and intake tubing!

Flitz ball owns you!

or Mothers Power Ball,, although the Flitz ball is much stronger and doesn't

rip as easy as the Mothers Ball.

If you used the Flitz ball with your polish, it'll get more shiny!

Damn Brian didya have fun? You need to get to work there bro.
I as well polished my AC compresssor and the computer. I used Mother's Billet metal polish. Turned out awesome! Sanding a lil bit does in fact help out on the computer.

It was barely rough. I just smoothed it down a bit to take that rough look out and polished it up with the Mother's Billet polish. Works like a charm.
Like I said use a very soft grit.

Re: check it out

did you use mother's billet polish? or the stuff i used? i think im going to give mother's billet polish a try on the computer and abs because its not doing "wonders" like what the blue magic did on my ac condenser, even after sanding. different type of metal i guess, but that blue magic stuff is awesome on headlights.

Re: check it out

I used blue magic for everything, the computer could use more work, might try sanding and see how my luck goes, I see alot of stuff that could be polished. Going to take some time and some sandpaper though lol. The ABS cover come out beautifully even better then that ac condensor.

If I got the time I want to try polishing anything thats bare metal, not sure if it will work or not but i imagine most of the components can be atleast shinier than as is.

i was doing some electrical under the hood so i messed around a bit.....these areas were heavily corroded(as you can see)....no sense in a before and after....it's obvious!

wet sanded with 1500 and buffed with the same system as i do car exteriors....it could be polished by hand, but i think this winter i'll evac. the a/c and pull it all apart and polish it...anyway,just a teaser to show what's possible

Re: check it out

I polished all my AC stuff awhile back using some 1000 grit sand paper and mothers billet polish. Turned out the same ways all yours did, but I've gotta re-do it every few months(at least the summer months) cuz when ever I have the AC on it gets all spotted from the condensation.
