Car Show Worthy?

Ok guys I went to my Hometown Festival last weekend and went to the Car show. I was sad to see very Few Vehicles there I mean it was raining so I guess alot of cars stayed home. Anyways I saw 2 S-10 Blazers One of which was looked to be painted with a spray can and then slapped on a set of 20's and a tinted the windows and oh ya put on a set of Smoked headlight covers. The paint looked like sand paper I mean it looked Rough.. The Other was a 98 Tan Jimmy The outside was Stock other then the Orion Sticker on the Windshield. The Listed Outstanding feature on the Jimmy was an Obnaticous Stereo System. But Ya know I seen nothin in it. The Damn Windows were rolled Up. I was Disgusted I wanted to put my Blazer in the show so damn bad. The only thing is I had my 18 month old sone with me and it was a lil chilly to sit outside and showofff my ride. My comment to you guys are what are you thinking? I mean if that is a Show Car then my lil bros Rice Burner Saturn is like a Dream Car..... Get a ride and then show it.. Hell I think my Grandmas car could of beat those guys..... Very Sad

Re: Car Show Worthy?

I would not enter my truck in a show until I felt like it stood out a bit. Stock vehicles with 22's or a stereo entering shows. I don't get it. I also don't get new vehicles rolling primer. Just looks like you can't afford paint. When I go to car shows as a spectator I want to see custom and modified vehicles.

Damn Right. Not some redneck Spray can Crap. I want to see somthin that took some time and a lil money to get done. I mean I want to see some Real Work and effort put into a ride before you show it.

Re: Car Show Worthy?

I show my truck and all it has is a rollpan, 18s, and a cut through. It dosen't really stick out much, but I ended up getting 2nd place. I guess it all depends on the other cars there...

Re: Car Show Worthy?

I like looking for cars that have awesome paintjobs or those that are well-maintained. When you're walking up to a car and think "Damn that thing looks good", then when you're in different light you can see swirls/smudges everywhere it's kinda dissapointing IMO, but I'm picky

It's cool seeing rigs that are a work-in-progress, as long as they're more than a rolling chassis

Re: Car Show Worthy?

I entered 16 car shows this year and you're right, there is alot of stuff that doesn't belong there. I always think "you brought you're primered vehicle instead of staying home and painting it today". I take pictures of what I think are the "stand out" rides and I think I might have taken 20 pics? My biggest problem is the "people's choice" shows intsead of the ones that have actual judges. People's choice is another way of saying popularity contest, it's not the best car, he just knows the most people. Hey vote for me and I'll vote for you! CRAP!!!

Where are you exactly ajsproaudio?

Re: Car Show Worthy?

I agree with ya'll. When I go to a show I want to see what other people have done themself. I hate it when someone has a butt load of money & takes the credit for someone elses work . I have put mine in a few shows & have 2 first place & one top ten trophies.

Re: Car Show Worthy?

Thinking about this subject, what about people who have't done that much to their rides? They might take pride in the little bit of work they've done and want to show it off. I realize we're talking about people who think they're "show worthy" because they have some 20's, 2 12" subs and a strap=on headrest LCD screen, but there's always that one person who can't afford to do a lot to their rig because of their financial state or maybe they've got a family or something?

This is (or could be)an interesting debate to say the least

Re: Car Show Worthy?

I feel that we need to differentiate these car/trucks being "showen" into the weekend warrior with a nice whip and the Pro with a 50+ hour paint job categories.

I think anyone and everyone should be entering your car/truck in a show to just Show it off let people see it up close maybe check out some innovative things you fabbed up in your garage and enjoy other rides.

Then, there the people who want to enter their car/truck in a judged competition at that car show to try to score points in certian areas where you have directed all your efforts Ei. stereo, paint, suspension, wheels/tires (<- donks) and so on...

I have had this exact question before with my truck (nothing special) asked to me by some goof with a "Nopi Girls Rule" shirt before at a show. I let him have with this same idea but with more "hondas suck" and "screw vtec's" in betweens

Re: Car Show Worthy?

I entered my truck last weekend and took first actually, it was the first San Antonio heatwave and all I've done put a 2/3 drop on my xtreme , stereo, just got it shaved all around(but I'm rockin satin black patches lol).
It was a good show and they upped me into the mild class, but I keep my truck very clean and detailed the interior all that fun stuff. So I was excited to hear my name called for first place.
pics are at http://www.coast2coastdesigns.com/gallery
just look for the heatwave gallery

where i live there is a huge community of modded vehicles, i go to the shows and enter just for something to do, hangout, talk to the other car owners, and I've yet to win anything, it doesnt matter cuz i dont expect to, but yah most of our shows have lots of quality.

Re: Car Show Worthy?

I've been in alot of shows where they just had a "truck" class, where I had every truck from a decked out Full-sixe 4x4 to a 53 ford in my class. I always try to call the show ahead of time and see if they have a "mini-truck" class. There is a guy I run with who has a 2005 Ford F350 King Ranch with every aftermarket part that Auto-Zone sells on it, and people like it! Unfortunetly for me it dwarfs my little dime. He has a stereo system in his bed but it's missmatched amps and all square panels with grey box carpeting that I could have done in a weekend. Spectators only see "big Stereo" they don't see the difference between his and mine that took months to build (flame section?).

I don't go with the notion that I'm the SHIT! where's my trophy! I too like to just go and hang out. My biggest reward is when some one says "holy Shit! That's F**KIN COOL!" when they see my truck. Between car shows and sound offs I have accumulated over 30 trophies in 5 years, they're all in my basement collecting dust.

I agree with you. I have enterd in a lot of shows & never won even runner-up. Sometimes I go & don't even bring my truck I will just talk to other people & get ideas. but when someone comes up to you & they complement your ride or they want to know how you did something that means alot.

This year I boycotted all particpant judged shows for that very reason. Even if the judges are sometimes a little biased, at least they're going by a point system. I can handle losing if a truck's nicer than mine - it just bugs me when a guy with a ratty ride wins a class because he's in a club or something like that. I also try to find the shows with mini truck classes. Most of the guys with the mid-fifties trucks have $30-50k in them. I just can't compete with that - especially considering I have less than $10k in my whole truck. I was at a big judged show a few weeks ago and ended up getting third to a 4x4 Canyon and a yellow 2003 Xtreme, both mildly modded. They were both nice trucks and all, but it's easy to make a brand new vehicle with stock paint look good. My truck's not perfect by a long shot, but it's pretty nice. Despite getting third place, I got all the attention that day. The two that beat me barely got looked at. Having guys come up and ask me how I did something or where I got something is what makes it fun. Like you said - the trophies just end up collecting dust.

Re: Car Show Worthy?

Well I'll be DAMNED!!!! I just won a people's choice trophy today. They gave out 16 trophies and I was the 8th one called. There were only about 50 vehicles so my chances were pretty good though. It also helped that I was the entertainment untill the live band came on.

what about underconstruckion rides like mine? I like to see them at shows. I say bring anything you want as long as you have atleast dont something to the outside, bagged, wheels or something, but a stock 96 s-10 with an audiobahn sticker doesnt count.

i gotta disagree man. ive busted my ass building my truck. each show i display my trophies with pride, it shows the younger kids what they can achieve when and if they want to choose this as a hobby/lifestyle. also gives the guys in yer class alittle something to think about as far as respect youve earned at previous shows from the judges.

One guy I was talking to said he never votes for people with displayed trophies at participant judged shows. Personally, it doesn't matter too much to me. If you won a "Best Of Show" or "Best Engine" or something like that, show it off. But it doesn't make much sense to me to display your "Bob's Bar and Grill 1st annual car show and cruise in" participant trophy. JMO.

well for instance, jus this last sunday (yesterday) i took 5 of em to a show and rolled home with 6....... i dont take like 15. i see it this way, from the first show of the year i enter, that starts the ball rolling, anything i win from that show til the last of the year is fair game. like i said, i built my truck from the dealership til now, no other hands on the planet have touched it. for me it says i can show and beat custom shops, high dollar rides and snivvlin "mommy + daddy" built rides... personally i like to see what the guys in my category have won, keeps me and my ideas on their toes

Yeah, it actually is.
At some of the larger hot rod ones I've been to, it's $8 for parking and $7 for admission. To show off your vehicle it's $20 for the car and 2 people.

Re: Car Show Worthy?

I'd never show off my trophies at shows, my truck speaks for itself. You don't need to have a handfull of plastic in front of your truck so people think it's a badass show winner.

My trophy is the logo on the bottom of my windshield, and the dozens of friends i've made all over the east coast because of it.

And from what I understand, a lot of you guys don't thikn primered rides should show, why? Some of us (myself included, it's why my truck is in primer) have to save for months and months just so we can blow money on our trucks, so if it's a fully custom vehicle, what's the problem with showing it if it's in primer?

True dat, it's expensive as PHUCK sometimes
First time I went to a Good Guys Show was when I was 15, admission was like $16 for adults and like $6.50 or something for 11 and under, I passed for 11 and under at the time

That's a bunch a crap too. I'm not saying I should win every show with my truck, but this year I've only placed once out of 15. I know well enough that my truck speaks for itself. Here's the truth and everyone knows that tropheys goto the friends first and then you. I hate it but you ever wonder why that certain car club has a car place in every division. Or the guy on the PA knows everything about the winning cars but never checked any of them out himself. I really have to say that this s10 isn't going to be see much in the shows anymore.

Re: Car Show Worthy?

of course we have to realize that alot of shows we are not always well received. By that I mean it's an older guy crowd with older cars. I just want them to know that "hey it's got an engine and 4 tires, and it's MY baby,my work, and we're not going away so you better get used to us" That is why I see shows that have age restrictions on entries...like 1984 and older only! Some shows don't even have a mini truck class, they lump all trucks together. Now I don't mind losing to a 54 custom panel truck that truth be told deserves to win, but what I don't appreciate is what jinusow said: car clubs that know the winners before the competitors even show up.
I show up, I make a great display of my truck, I talk to people, answer their questions and soak up their comments. That's still the biggest thing for me.

I took my truck to Super Chevy in Joliet this year. $45 at the gate for me and my truck. My wife came a little later and it was $22 for spectators. Sure, there was racing going on at the time and a bunch of vendors, but it was a little steep. If I hadn't already made the 45 minute drive at 10 miles per gallon and $3.25 premium gas, I'd have gone home.

You explained how I feel. It really isn't about me being a trophey whore I've got plenty on shelves. It's not just me it's imports or sport bikes that come to shows as well and get screwed. It's having every old fuk ask how to install a lsx motor in there 57 68 bel air or maro or if I can do it for them. It doesn't matter if your truck/car is 4 or you swap 8 in if it doesn't have rust you can't win. I don't mind losing to anything that is beautiful but lately its not been even close. How can a 99' copper busa with custom side car and forks driven by a guy in his 50's lose. I have to say that I will still goto cruise nights in fact my favorite cruise night has better than 500 cars a month in the summer. I just don't like "professionally" judged.

Re: Car Show Worthy?

I'm a show snob I guess.

- I hate primer. When did it become "cool" to have primer? Half of the rides that rock primer have brutal body work.

- Trophies. I'm proud of mine, but I will never go to a show and put them on display. I think it's ridiculous. Unless you are winning the Riddler at Autorama, give me a break.
