california car duster

I have had one for about a year and its getting dirty looking, and although it still picks up the dust and stuff off my truck, it leaves streaks all over the place. Do i need a new one or can i just wash this one out or something?

Re: california car duster

You can get them fairly cheap compared to whenthey first hit the market.
I would say that after a year it is time to replace it anyhow
To me is is worth the money (less than $2 a month) to have a clean ride and piece of mind that the CCD is working correctly and not going to possibly have something embedded that may scratch.

If it is streaking, try this-
Wrap it in newspaper for a day or two, try it again...

Re: california car duster

I just washed mine the other day, worked better than new. Go for it, just hand wash it in cold water with a little degergent or somethin and then rinse it out and air dry it.

Re: california car duster

those things have wax embedded in the fibers, if you wash it, you're just left with a dry duster. i'd say just get a new one.

Re: california car duster

the reason they work so well is because of the parafin wax on the fibers like s10blaza said. I know people wash them and they work good but that would probably cause the wax to come off...so I guess either washing, or buying a new one would be ok...

That is the "active ingredient"..., what makes it different from just a regular dry duster and helps make the dust cling to it.

If you do wash it, make sure you do not use a harsh detergent such as a dish detergent or laundry detergent.

If you want to try washing it before buying a new one, try washing it by hand in a bucket of cold/luke warm car wash. Start with a mix 1/4 the amount the directions call for, remember, you do not want to remobe the wax in the fibers, just some of the dirt that has built up over time.

I made a habit of shaking it out when I was finished dusting, put it back in the plastic wrap, then hang it back up.

Let us know how it works out

Re: california car duster

Wal-Mart, Autozone and believe it or not..., Big Lots sometimes carries them.
Make SURE you are getting the name brand CCD if you go to Big Lots, they also carry off branded dusters that do not work so well.
I purchased about 5 or 6 last time at Big Lots for about $9ea

I picked mine up at Autozone when I was in TN last year for Slammin' & Jammin'. For Canadians they have them at Canadian Tire for $25.00

I have had mine for over 4 years now, have never had to wash it or anything.. It doesn't leave streaks on the windows or the body AT ALL.......mine is so dirty, there is no more of that red "new" color to it at all, I am glad that I haven't had any of the problem that you guys have had, I think I have gotten my moneys worthx100 since I bought it.........
