Re: Bugs Damnit!!!

i use one of those plasitc brillow pad thingys.... not a scotchbrite though. Its some little thing that they make from recycled milk jugs... works good on chrome, on the mirrors, and it doesent scratch the paint.

Re: Bugs Damnit!!!

If you want to do a full detail (good idea), use clay bar. Just do a forum search. Clay bar will get all of that bug crap and other junk out of your clear coat, and will leave your paint feeling like a baby's butt. Make sure to wax a couple times after you use the clay bar though. Just search and follow the instructions.

Re: Bugs Damnit!!!

They do make a special sponge for removing bugs but I have never tried it. I like Simoniz bag and tar remover the best. I also got the kind made by Gunk and that stuff sucks. Another thing I heard was vasaline but I wouldn't try it.

Re: Bugs Damnit!!!

In order to get everything clean, pick up some wax and grease remover. Use a soft rag and soak it with some w&g remover. Lightly rub the bugs off. On the harder ones you way have to soak the rag and hold it up against the bug for 15 seconds to help loosen it up.

Then wash the front end with your regular car soap. I use a bug scrubber(foam pad with a netting) on the front end and lower bodypanels. You can pick them up at Walmart, AutoZone, etc. They are a little coarse at first so I always use them on other things before using them on my truck. It wears them out and softens them up quite a bit.

The front end should now be completly clean. Next is to polish it to remove any small scratches you may have put into it when cleaning. I use Griots #3 Polish for this.

Finally put a good coat of wax on the front end. It will leave a slippery non-stick surface. It will aid in removing the bugs the next time.

It's easiest to clean the bugs off right after you drive but if this isn't possible try and remove them withtin a couple of days with the bug sponge and soap & water. Anything longer and they will be tough to get off causing you to scrub harder which in turn will remove your wax coat which in turn makes it even more difficult the next time. For the ultimate in protection rewax your frontend every week.

Re: Bugs Damnit!!!

I use Turtle Wax Car Wash Soap. It takes off road tar, and bugs usualy in one pass with a soft white car wash sponge. It has carnuba wax in it, and makes my truck shine. I stay away from all other Turtle Wax products though. Also, if you don't have time to wash your truck right away, at least blast those bugs off with water as soon as you get home.

Re: Bugs Damnit!!!

Claying has worked the best for the stubborn bugs that seem to stay around longer than others. I just clayed my daily and it took all the grime and bugs off..........

There is a multi use cleaner called Spray Nine that we use in our dealerships that works really well on bugs, especially when used with a pressure washer. Just wet down the vehicle and spray some on and you can watch the bugs melt away. Hit it with a pressure washer and all but the very old bug carnage will be gone with little to no scrubbing=easy for you and the vehicles clear coat. The stuff can be used for everything from degreasing engines and cleaning wheels to carpet and interior(diluted). It doesnt work at all on tar as it is an alkaline based cleaner as opposed to solvent based. We get the stuff through our suppliers but Im sure you could find it without having to buy it through a supplier.
