Re: bug prevention

I have also heard of some people down here during love bug season spraying Pam non-stick spray on the car. My boss did it...we drove to the Keys for work...and came back and the front was BLACK. It does keep the bugs off...but it attracts everything else and the dust and dirt sticks to it quite well.

Re: bug prevention

no way to avoid them. Just keep the front of the truck polished/waxed (paint, chrome, etc.) It will make it easier to remove the bugs later. But remember, bug guts will eat through your clear coat, as well as bird poo.....

Re: bug prevention

If the bugs get real bad you could clay them off.

Re: bug prevention

Does speed affect if bugs get stuck to the truck or not? I imagine the slipstream changes at different speeds.

I guess what we really need is a windtunnel and a bunch of bugs.

Seriously though, I googled for spray-on teflon, and found this:

http://www.autobarn.net/tespwax22ozb.html

There apparently is also a teflon "nonstick cookware repair" spray available. Unfortunatly, it may need to be baked onto the surface to be coated.

yes, speed does matter. when ur moving at 5 mph, the bug can still fly away.
when at 80, the bug is smashed.

Re: bug prevention

anything Telfon, that has to do with car care, is a gimmick.
Like the DuPont wax stuff you find at wal mart...

Teflon has to be baked on at a very high temp.

So it's just DuPont using their trademark on some wax? I knew PTFE needed to be cured, but I was hoping it was related.

Bingo. If it does anything, it makes it easier to apply/remove. But typically, people will see it, think Teflon, and bam, it must be the slickest there is, which is not the case at all.
