Brown Tires??

How can I keep my tires from turning brown? I'm using Son-of-aGun aerosol to dress the tires after I clean them. What tire cleaner should I use? What tire shine should I use that doesn't make them look super glossy? Any help would be great. Thanks.

Re: Brown Tires??

I use the Megiurers(sp?) Tire Gel. It keeps the wet look for a while, then kinda dries into a deep black over the days. Only thing is it tends to shoot off on the rocker panels if you drive right after applying it.

Re: Brown Tires??

My tires did that from using gel tire dressings so I had to go and get a brass tire brush cleaner and some tire cleaner and scrub them down to get them back to black.

I wouldn't go spraying it all over the place. I didn't cover my zq8 rims but it wouldn't hurt anything to cover them up. The stuff is pretty strong.

Re: Brown Tires??

That brown stuff is wax that the tire manufacturers place in the tire to help increase the longevity of the tires. I use Wesley's Bleeche-White to clean my tires.

Yeah, I've read that somewhere before it's supposed to help keep the tires from dry rotting.....or something along those lines. lol
I'm going to grab some Wesleys after work tomorrow and give it a shot. Thanks for the help.

Yea there is no reason to use a damn brass bristle brush. I just use a stiff bristle "fingernail" brush. Not sure of the actual name lol but it's just a plastic bristle brush that is about three inches long.

Re: Brown Tires??

On my girls BFG's I usually hit them with Bleach White and a stiff brush, then dress them with Meguiar's NXT InsaneShine tire spray. Works great and theres zero spray-off on the rocks/bedsides, even if you apply it and drive right after.

Re: Brown Tires??

I picked up some Wesleys last night so I'll give it a shot this weekend. Any ideas on what I can use to protect my wheels while I'm spraying the Wesleys on them? Thanks.

Re: Brown Tires??

I just try to minimize my overspray but I guess if you wanted you could cut a piece of cardboard the diameter of your wheel and just hold it up there while you spray.

That gives me a good idea! I do plastic injection molding for a living so I can take one of our products and cut it down to fit my wheels and that will last a hell of a lot longer than cardboard. Thanks for the idea.

real good and no touch tire care to keep that nasty brown
out of em. Mine were bad, but the above recipe fixed it.

thats what i use, yea just dont spray it allover your wheels, alittle overspray is hard not to get on there, but just rinse the wheels and tires off real good and wipe the wheels down with a seperate cloth......

Re: Brown Tires??

i rarely ever use tire shine because the acetone in them will cause dry rotting over time. I just get the tire wet a bit before and let the wheel cleaner mix with the water on the tire, wipe it around and hose it off. Never had any problems that way. To keep the tires black i will use Meguiars vynal and rubber protectant, it comes in a red spray bottle, works awesome. Ill put that on a tire swipe pad and wipe it on. Stays black and there is nothing that flies onto the rockers or body. Just let it sit for about 5 min before moving.

Re: Brown Tires??

Well, I finally got around to using the Wesleys today and it worked great! Now what kind of tire shine should I use? I don't want to use anything real shiny just something to get them nice and black. Thanks.

Re: Brown Tires??

I either use Wesley's Bleach White on mine or I'm also very fond of using Eagle One Tire Shine. Both work equally well with my applicators that I have for putting on tire shine with no mess at all.
