Re: Bring back the shine
Was wandering about that clay bar . Also Would the buffer be better than hand waxing?

Re: Bring back the shine
I heard that the buffer is better and you do not get your hands dirty and tired.

Re: Bring back the shine
If you still have a good shot of clear I say VERY lightly wet sand the entire truck, buff it, and wax it. Look as good or better then whell it rolled off the show room floor. Other then what ever scratches/ dents it has now.

Re: Bring back the shine
Wetsanding isn't nesseccary unless your paint is truely f'd up.
I detailed my uncles F-250, kinda the same color as your truck. I did a quick polish with Presta 1500, then Swirl Remover, and topped it off with Longevity sealant. It looked awesome Colors like these are really easy to work with, they usually give good results fairly easy ![]() |

Well it looks shiny in the pic , but once you get up close it is dull looking . Just trying to get away with a paint job right now

Re: Bring back the shine
It looks oxidized...
I suggest Wash, Clay Bar, Buff with appropriate compound/pad combination, polish and whatever type of sealant/wax you like. Some Poorboys Natty's Blue will make that color pop. You may want to bring the truck to a professional if you've never buffed before., or know much about detailing From what I can tell from the picture there is no clear coat failure. |

Re: Bring back the shine
you can't tell from a pic so if you pursue this it's at your own peril.i could tell you things to do but unless i see it up close and personal I don't know.it could be years of wax finally to the point it goes cloudy.buff it off and start again.but i would suggest you take it to a shop that won't try to screw you and ask their opinion.

Re: Bring back the shine
A lot of times colors just look "flat" due to lack of care or just being dirty. I've got a few clients with silver cars, they ALWAYS look kinda plasticky before a wash, but after they're cleaned up they shine right up.
As others said, the pic isn't the greatest for judging what exactly needs to be done, but a good polishing never hurts. If it's faded, it's more than likely light oxidation all over the truck. Red's notorious for it, you HAVE to keep up with it or it'll turn into lipstick in no time. If you've never used a buffer before, then stay away from one for your truck. Go to a local detail shop and ask them what needs to be done. Hell, you can do all the work yourself and just have them polish it with an abrasive compound, then they can hit it with a more mild polish or even you can if you're willing to spend a few hours working it by hand. Any kind of sealant should really make that color look great after all the pre=wax prep is done ![]() |
