Re: black stuff

Looks like it's either tar,or brake dust... either way, just clean the wheel with soap, and water, and then polish it.

Re: black stuff

Looks like baked on brake dust... try some Comet (sink cleaner) on the back of a 'scrubby sponge' - not like a ScotchBrite pad, the rough backed sponges. If that doesn't work try getting ^^that^^ combo wet with some brake dust cleaner, just be sure to do it outside incase any fumes buid up from mixing the two.

Re: black stuff

Degreasers on polished wheels isn't a very good idea, unless he wants to spend about an hr., or 2 polishing each one. Degreasers ruin the finish, and I certainly wouldn't recomend using ANYTHING abrasive on them. Not that it couldn't be polished out... it's just a pain in the ass. Trust me, soap, and water, then rinse, then polish.

Here's a detailers tip I found on the web, concerning the use of degreasers on wheels.....

"Most degreasers are pretty harsh, so wear gloves while you're doing this. Oh yeah, and if the wheel is polished alloy without any clear protective coat, take great care or the cleaner will stain the metal."

Re: black stuff

I found a thread for you to read. I agree with just about everything they say in it... except for what they said about the Hot Rims Chemical, because I've never used it. So, I couldn't agree, or disagree. Anyway, the thread is pretty short. So just take the time to read the whole thing... it's only 16 posts long, with very short answers....

Re: black stuff

Don't use those cleaners/degreasers. They may stain the rims.

BTW: God damn Eric, you should know this shlt.

Re: black stuff

Use a tube of Autosol, You can get it at any autoparts stores. it is a metal polish. Works very well. Its from germany and ive used it on aluminum to polish it to a mirror like finish.
