Bird Crap

Well yesterday a bird decided to take a dump on my freshly painted hood. I got home and immedialtly washed it off. Problem is it left the paint rough. Can I polish it out or am I screwed. The same thing happend to my tonneau cover last year. I couldn't remove the mark it left. Luckily the mark on the hood is pretty small.. but still pisses me off.

Re: Bird Crap

Well I have been searching online and I've been getting mixed answers. Some people say it can be polished or wet sanded out. And others say there is noway to remove it, it has to be repainted. Repainting is not an option. I just had it painted like a month ago. Anyone have any experience removing the dull spot left by bird shiat? What pisses me off is that the bird shit was only on it while I was at work. Not like it was sitting there for a few days.

Re: Bird Crap

You should be able to use a Clay bar on it. The paint is 1 month old, it should have cured by now..

Re: Bird Crap

Would a clay bar really work? It doesnt appear anything is in the paint. The paint is dull and rough.

Re: Bird Crap

Actually you might be right with the clay bar. Did some searching and people have used it followed by some strach X and it did the job. going to try it tonight. I'll post how it turns out. I'll take some before and after pictures too... maybe make a "Removing Bird Shit Stains How-To"

Re: Bird Crap

Yeah, it should be able to be removed or at least concealed. Just dont leave em on there for a long time or they'll damage BAD. I saw it happen to my moms car =-/

If people just let crap happen to thier cars and didn't find a restorative answer, MAACO would be a monopoly and soon we would all have cars with paint sprayed ontop of unfurbished undercoat. So the best answer is a claybar, don't continue to rub compounds or anything on it, because you will just eat the paint away. Another nasty is eggs, which you're pretty much screwed if you can't get to soap and water on a hot day. Like your momma use to say; don't keep picking at the scab, or it'll get infected!

Re: Bird Crap

i actually found out that birds like to shit on shiny things, that is why freshly washed/waxed dark vehicles get hit more often then dirty, less shiny colored vehicles

Re: Bird Crap

It depends how bad it is, if you can repair it or not. Not all bird shit is the same, depends what they ate and stuff...so the answer is, it might come out.

Re: Bird Crap

Well, this same shit just happened to me. Sometime this morning a bird shit on my hood, so I went out and washed it (a few hours after it sat in the sun) and it like made my paint rough. If you look right at it, its like an almost bubbly texture and looks like shit. This really pisses me off.

I think this week or next I'm going to try and claybar that area and see if anything helps. I know its a fact of life and all that, but I spend an amazingly amount of effort keeping my ride looking its best and one little bird shit messes up my hood this bad.

Re: Bird Crap

Well I mean I've waxed twice or so in the past few months so some layers of wax are on there.

Bird shit hasen't done this any other time so I'm thinking the bird was just having a bad day after drinking some battery acid or something lol!

Re: Bird Crap

Almost had a heart attack!!!!! DO NOT use WD40 its strips the wax. Its safe for the paint but not for wax. Just buy something to lube the claybar and go to work with the claybar. I promise the clay will take it off. Be sure to use a spray detailer or claybar lube though. Don't use the claybar dry i have seen the horrors of what it does from ppl who don't lube the clay. Clay always works!

Re: Bird Crap

Lol who said to use WD40? I would never think of putting that anywhere near my truck except on the door hinges.

Re: Bird Crap

What if you hit a bird? And say that bird was a big fat @ss pigeon who left not blood, but grey crap all over the front of your truck? Then say, that when you wash it off, you still see where it was. Then say that you wax and polish it, and it doesnt come out.

Are bird brains acidic?
