Best way to remove emblems?

I want to take the emblem of my car that says focus, is there a good product for this? What kind of residue does it leave?

Re: Best way to remove emblems?

fords use alignment pins for alot of their emblems, so be careful, removing the emblem could leave an exposed hole.

just drag a piece of mono-filiment behind the emblem, it will get it off. then to remove the glue use an old terry rag (anything that wont scratch the paint works really) and something like goof off to remove the gule. wax afterwords.

Re: Best way to remove emblems?

The focus's emblems are held on with adhesive. I took the emblems off the girlfriends when she got it. You will definatly need goof off for the left over adhesive.

Re: Best way to remove emblems?

I suggest one of these, it removes vinyl, adhesive residue or whatever really quick.

Re: Best way to remove emblems?

yeah they work. it can VERY easily burn through your clear coat if you arent careful. you dont need that for removing glue from an emblem.

Re: Best way to remove emblems?

Yes this is true, but I use it all the time at work, Just keep it moving and it will be fine. I've burned thru only a couple times using it. Goo Gone does a pretty good job as well.

Re: Best way to remove emblems?

as long as you are carefull u can use a drywall spatula (get the thin metal flimsy type) then use wax and grease remover(will find in autobody section of most car parts supplier) its what i use all the time at my job to remove these

Re: Best way to remove emblems?

i used goo gone and an orbital buffer to remove all the adhesive from my factory pinstripes, stickers, and symbols. time consuming, but gentle and works well.

filimint works great too. after u take off the symbols, make a belt buckel outa them

i alwasy get compliments on my GMC buckel

Re: Best way to remove emblems?

heat gun...then take a old credit card and slide it behind the emblems...keep up with the heat gun and use generously to get the emblem off...then with your thumbs, take and roll the excess glue off by rolling it...remove the rest of the residue with bug and tar remover

Re: Best way to remove emblems?

After reading this thread I decided to finally take my emblems off, and it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I used a plastic paint spatula to get behind the emblems and lift them off the paint and then sprayed the residue with 3m wax and adhesive remover, let it soak got what I could off with my thumbs, for the thick areas I used a razor blade and then thumbs. Then I went over it all real good with a wet wash cloth, and am extremely pleased with how it came out.

Re: Best way to remove emblems?

the way I did mine was:

1.heat up emblem, it didn't take my new heat gun very long.
2.pealed off the emblem with my hand
3.used fingernails for left over glue
4.used 3M adheiseve remover whiped off all left over glue
5.used meguire's scratch X to rub out "fade"(not really paint fade)
6.polished with turtle wax color polish(in my case black)
7.waxed with meguire's gold class wax
8.repeated steps 6 and 7 on the rest of the truck

It came out beautiful!

Re: Best way to remove emblems?

"Saw" the adhesive with fishing line. Pour a little paint thinner on the adhesive. Rub it off. Clean the area real good. Wetsand the area with some 1500 to make sure you get anything off. Hand buff the area with some rubbing compound. Wash the area real good. Wax the area.
