At the shop I work at, we do a three step process on most cars. A good cut, polish, and wax job would do the trick...If it is fairly new you shouldn't have to do the cut part (wool pad with a rotary buffer if you have one and feel comfortable using it, and compound), but this will take out any surface scratches and smooth out the clearcoat...Then, use a good polish with a foam pad , this will shine it up more...And to finish it off a hand wax job will protect the paint and help it stay clean. If you do a good job there will be no streakiness in the sun...and hand wash your car if you can, automatic car washes are horrible on black paint.

...you can either do all that yourself, or it would cost about 75-100 bux to have a shop do the whole three step process (pricing may be different in your area), then afterwards, probably wax it monthly.

ok. some guys around here thought it would be a funny practical joke to "test" that black magic car tint sh!t on my entire truck. On the can it says "washes right off". the metal flakes will not come off for anything. i went to a body shop, and the guy that runs it said he would charge me $75 just to do the hood and 2 front quarter panels. i ask about those 3 in particular because their the worst ones. what could i do myself?

When you say cut, do you mean stripping the old coat of wax(es)
off? What type of wax do you prefer& why? What do you use on the chrome grills? Have some oxidation on front grill& would like to get my truck back to above average appearance |

Best to soak a rag in the diluted solution then wipe the tires with some elbow grease. If you get any on your wheels, wipe it off right away with a clean rag. Try it at your own risk. |

cutting is the process of buffing the paint with a rotary buffer and compound to get the scratches out.
At the shop I work at we use auto magic products. the type of wax depends on what youre doing. If you have cut and polished the paint then you only need regular wax. If you're looking for a one step then use a cleaner wax. I would try blue magic metal polish on the grill.. I'm not completely sure if it's ok on chrome, I imagine it wouldn't do any harm, but it will remove the oxidation. I would try a brass wire brush on the tires w/ some degreaser. I would try that way before trying oven cleaner. |

the stuff we use is this alkaline base degreaser...It's auto magic "red hot". I think it is an engine degreaser.

Registered: Jan 2002
Location: Plains,PA Posts: More than 1 Angry Hazy Crazy rims won't shine I have a set of Colorado Customs rims and they are looking somewhat dull and hazed up. Quite possibly this happened after they came back from the shop where I had my body work done. There was quite a bit of crap on them...grrrr. Anyhow....I need some suggestions....someone said have them wet sanded...i dont' know about that. Where can I go and what can I say to get these blings blinging again. Thanks |

hey green , how 'bout when wax gets in those rough black plastic parts, like the door handles and bedliner edges and leav white stains? (I've gotten rid of them, but they come back!)

Clean S.X., There's some stuff called new car solvent we use, works really well on removing lots of stuff, but definitely removes the wax from the black parts. If you can't get a hold of that stuff, then gasoline would work.

For the wheels, Blue Magic or that extreme metal polish should do the trick. I wouldn't wet sand the polished rims unless you wanted the hazed look or a subdued look.

I've seen a lot of people with black vehicles and they always seem to have that nice wet looking sine to them. Ive tried some wet wax but eagle one but it doesnt seem to give me that wet look. DOes anyone know what kind of wax would give me that look?

The best way to clean tonneau covers? Mine has like some fine dust stains engraved between them "leather" grooves. I tried a soft brush with car wash soap on it. no luck P.S. Stock02, that AV looks painful |

My trucks Indigo blue, and theres some pretty bad swil marks and paints circles, and scratches in it. You cant tell, unless its in direct sunlight, but I think it looks so bad, it kills me. Ive waxed and it didnt help, someone recommended Zymol, but the weathers been so bad I havent had a chance. If that doesnt work, what can I do? Thanks

Did it get all of them out? I hope I can, because I was thinking about painting my truck another color, just to get rid of the swirls. If I dont have to do that, Ill get my rims a lot sooner.
