A Good Wax?
Just wondering what name wax you may suggest?
I've been told to use "3M Performance Finish wax". Then a friend who owns a body shop says he never waxes his car and uses only "Turtlewax Soap" which is good enough. (???) Just would like to hear a few suggestions on your preferred wax. Thanks |

Re: A Good Wax?
I prefer Meguiar's next generation wax, it's supposed to bond with the paint and fill in little swirl marks and things like that. I know a guy with a black mustang cobra that shows alot, and he used it and it looked like he had a new paint job, of course his car is only driven to shows and never seen rain. I've used it on a few people's cars and I really like it, goes on easy, and comes off easy too.

Re: A Good Wax?
the Meguiar's NXT that mikeeuro suggested is a good wax, i've used it before when i used to detail cars and it is a good product. on my personal cars i use the Mother's three stage system (pre-cleaner, sealer, and pure carnauba wax), also a very good product

Re: A Good Wax?
I personally use Meguiars #7 Showcar Glaze after a good claying followed by #26 Hi-Tech yellow wax followed by a thorough rubbing of the car with some Ultimate Quik Detailer. If the surface is pretty scratched I'll do the entire car with the #83 swirl remover with the porter cable. This method still hasn't let me down

Re: A Good Wax?
We used to use cherry wax at work and it was awesome. Don't kmnow what happened to it though. Anyways I use the NXT previously mentioned and it turns out pretty good. I don't really like the ice wax. Next wax I buy I'm gonna try Nu-Finish paste wax cuz a guy at work uses it and you should see the water bead up it's crazy.

best wax hands down is called super glaze, sounds cheesy i know, but it rules. its made by a company called the wax shop, easy on easy off, ive never liked a wax more well its actually liquid carnuaba.you cant find it everywhere but i get mine at farm and fleet or autozone.

Re: A Good Wax?
3M cleaner wax. Goes on easy, cleans up any little scratches or defects you might have, and ends with a nice gloss/shine.
Alternately, any of 3M's waxes if the finish is in good shape. |

Id like to try some of the stuff Heathd mentioned but dont really know where to start and if its even worth getting to only apply by hand.
Im probably going to use Mother's Clay Bar and the NXT Meguiars wax sometime this week. |

Re: A Good Wax?
I've demo'd/beta'd or used at least 50 different waxes/sealants over the years. With the exception of Flynn's and SuperGlaze I've tried every product listed to this point in this thread. Most are still sitting in my shop and I use them from time to time. I'm sure that I'll get jumped on for saying this but I'm going to anyway. There is no "best" wax, period. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some prefer liquid waxes, some prefer paste waxes. I happen to like paste waxes though a little more difficult to use. Some of the products already mentioned aren't really waxes. Mequair's markets NXT as a wax yet it contains no natural waxes. It's a decent product but not a wax. Zaino is another high end product that many love but it's not a wax.
If I take care of the prep work properly any one of 20 different waxes (both over the counter and boutique) will look great on my vehicle. Now if you're asking for the longest lasting waxes (not talking sealants) the Collinite line is worth looking at. If you've got a dark colored vehicle Pinnacle Souveran Paste is great though not as durable as Collinite. Price/performance with great looks, PoorBoys makes several top notch products. If you're need is for a really easy to apply paste wax P21/S100 are great. Maintaining a beautiful finish is much more about using the proper products to get your paint ready for wax or sealant for that matter. Getting the micro marring out is where the challenge lies. Now the question may be who makes the best line of polishes or clays? A good buffer is also essential in the quest for a pristine finish. Last edited by GearHead_1 : 05-21-2008 at 05:47 PM. |

Turtle wax original.
But I usually just use this stuff.. ![]() wash your ride, then apply it while it's still wet, and use a chamois to dry, comes out amazing. |

Re: A Good Wax?
I just washed the truck, used Mother's Clay Bar system, and finished it with Megiuars Tech Wax 2.0. Came out like glass of course, but I still need a much more abrasive approach to rid my black truck on the swirl marks.
I really like it though, very deep wet look. Definite night and day when I would do one panel then compare it to an unfinished portion also doesnt leave that white flaky residue in the cracks of the vehicle. |

Re: A Good Wax?
I normally mothers 3 step my truck following a clay bar session depending upon how dirty the truck is. My moms TL type S needed a good wash and waxing as she hadn't washed it in months(think northeast winters) so i decided to go all out on it today BUT i figured id try the Meguire's NXT 2.0 wax and i must say it came out great. Def got rid of a lot of the imperfections in the car. Now, lets see how clean she keeps it lol

I use nothing but 3M. Their plastic cleaner/plastic polish is AMAZING for shining up the windshield cowl and side mirrors or any other shit that is made of that black plastic.

Re: A Good Wax?
I was wanting to try 3M wax but nothing available in any of the stores in my area so I ended up trying Mothers Carnauba Cleaner Wax.
Truck looks ok but I am sore from trying to get it off after applying it. A real b*tch to remove! I wanna see how it beeds on my next wash. If it doesn't look so good I'm gonna be a cheap ass and see if I can get my money back as Mothers claims you can do. |

Re: A Good Wax?
another thing ive tried and loved was the ICE paste polish. i clayed my truck, then polished with the paste ice , then waxed with NXT and my truck almost looked metallic.
notice how i said the paste wax. i figured the liquid shit was just as good, doesnt come off worth a damn, and it sucks compared to the paste |

Re: A Good Wax?
the best wax I've ever used is Royal Blue. You can only buy it online at elite-products.com I tried like pretty much everything and wasn't ever completely satisfied. Once I tried this stuff though, i'm hooked now. It's the best s**t there is. Still beads up on my truck and I haven't waxed it since the fall. Just rub on and wipe off...don't let it dry.

Re: A Good Wax?
Real zymol is pretty good, the stuff you posted is a "retail" version and is only a cleaner wax. If I remember correctly, real Zymol has to be refrigirated when not being used due to the high amount of actual Carnuba in it. |

Re: A Good Wax?
Best is a very subjective term. In my experience virtually anything that looks good on darker colors will look good on white. The opposite is not necessarily as universally true. Relatively speaking white is easy to make look good (as far as white paint goes). I happen to like white but many feel it is just too boring. It doesn't show swirls nearly as easily as dark colors. If I were going to buy wax for just a white car here are a few of my favorites: S100, Natty's Wax and Meguiars #26. Now if I were going to use the product on both dark and light vehicles I would probably modify the list to be: Natty's Blue, Pinnacle Souveran and from a local buy perspective NXT. Pinnacle is my favorite of all of the waxes mentioned and looks good on anything.

Re: A Good Wax?
If you get the meguiars I would try to find it in the paste. I like paste waxes a lot better.
Also you may want to try a glaze (awaits the NO GLAZE comments). The only two that have and that I would highly recommend if you want to go the glaze route is, Danase Wet Glaze and Red Moose Glaze (Clearkote) And yeah like gearhead said I use NB and PS on white and really like it. Though I really hate doing white cars. Also I have a bottle of Poorboys EX-P, it supposed to be good on white, haven't tried it yet though. And yeah I was looking at that fuzion, $175, wow. I think Ill have to hold off on that for awhile, just ordered some SIP and 106! Can't wait to get them! Last edited by wagonproject : 06-03-2008 at 07:35 PM. |

Re: A Good Wax?
I'm with you on the paste wax thing. I really like pastes and believe they are more economical than liquids. I also like using WolfGang's glaze under a paste wax. I got thinking about what I had written. I haven't purchased either of these for a while, I've got a cabinet full of various products I've yet to use. So... I figured I better do a price check to make sure what I was saying was correct. DP's Spray Surface Sealant is running $10 right now and the 4 Star was at $30 at one of the popular distributors. That gives you something to think about when looking at a price/performance ratio. Last edited by GearHead_1 : 06-03-2008 at 08:36 PM. |

Okay my truck got completely repainted and it's ready for a wax, since it shouldn't have to be cleaned first, what should I use?
I don't intend to take ove the thread, just curious. |

Re: A Good Wax?
How long has it been since it was painted? Many paints have specific cure times before you lay a wax or sealant down on them. They need time to out gas and cure. Some don't require any cure time. The fact you said it didn't need to be cleaned made me wonder if it was just painted. You might do well to ask the body shop. 90 days is a safe number if you don't know the specifics. Once you've determined that it is safe to paint the door is wide open for your favorite wax or sealant.
