window trim

The rear window trim on my 2dr blazer is going to hell. I am going to sand it and throw some paint on (rattle can, lol, its going to be a trail rig next year so it doesn't have to be perfect) and I just want to stop it from screwing up from the sun. I was just wondering if theres a certain type of rattle can I should use for the hard plastic and then if I should spray something on it before I paint it?
