Re: Two Tone paint pics

Got her painted two tone in the evenings of the last week at the garage, the cherry red is 7 years old but in great shape except for around the lower areas, hence the two tone. Done with JD Blitz black, one can per panel. Too hard to justify a base clear job on a 14 year old daily that sees northern atlantic winters. All fender lips are cut and rolled and a new rollpan put on. Just waiting on a new tonneau cover handle.

and messed around with some cold air intakes to replace the rusted driving lights...

Time to practice some old school pinstriping...

Is that your original air dam?

Thanks. Yes it is the original red airdam just painted, it will eventually be replaced by a black one. The cheapo driving lights I had were all rusty so I mounted some ducting and added the same mesh I have in the grille.

Re: Two Tone paint pics

I like the look of it alot, I am going to get a 98+ bumper, fill the gap on it, and use a 94-97 valance. Mine is like yours but has two little hole from where the liscense plate holder was. I was going to try to fill the holes on mine but I like the look of yours. Want to sell it when you get a new one lol?

Re: Two Tone paint pics

Mine had those two holes but I cut out 2 small filler pieces from my original valence which had no driving light openings and Autogooped them in.

If you look closely you can still see them.

Re: Two Tone paint pics

I'll tell you it took a lot out of me to hit the truck with the sander knowing that I was going to spray bomb it...but I am very happy with the way it turned out. The Blitz Black layed out great. The guy who painted it cherry red also really likes the new look.

Your truck looks great. I would never have thought this was done with a spray can. I like the mesh you've got in your grill and the inserts in your bumper. Where did you get the mesh and did you make these inserts yourself? I'm wanting to do something like this to my truck and haven't been able to locate the mesh.

I'm getting ready to start prepping my truck for paint and am wanting to two tone my truck. This thread has provided many ideas to include many from your truck. I like what you've done with yours. My truck will be a daily driver and I am trying to come up with an economical and classic look like you have achieved with yours. HS

Re: Two Tone paint pics

Thanks, mine is also a daily, 250,000+km and driven 365 for the last 14 years including Northern Atlantic winters. Hence why I needed to do some bodywork around the wheel lips and rear box corners...not to mention that 3 of the 4 box struts had broken off and the quarters were starting to flop around.

The mesh is from APC which I found at Canadian Tire, it is just a 1 foot by 4 foot rectangle that was cut to fit and wired in using some fine SS safetywire. It was also available in several anodized colours, just not my style. See APC actually has made a decent product.

Are you telling me that, that paint job on the lower part of your truck was done out of a spary can?

OMG. I am going to do that to my Blazer. I have lots of lower body work needed and this will work great.

You sir are correct, one can per panel to ensure I didn't get any spatter. The JD Blitz Black lays out perfectly with no stroke marks.

I do like the look of the S10's with a nice two tone paint scheme, be it factory or one of the many nice custom jobs posted here.

Re: Two Tone paint pics

I just bought paint yesterday to do a 2 tone. I spent 231.46 for two qts of color, reducer, 1gal off clear, activator (all Dupont),tape, 3M scratch pads, and some tack rags. I have never painted trucks before but if anyone can do it, I figured I could too. A shyttie paint job is only a DA sander away right...

Re: Two Tone paint pics

$2,000-$10,000. Depends on what you want, body work involved, type of paint used... There's too many variables to give you a pin point answer of how much a shop will charge you. Find a reputable body shop in your area and they should give you an estimate at no charge.

not sure where you buy your materails from but a gallon of decent clear is gonna cost around 200. unless you got the nason (duponts cheap brand)

Re: Two Tone paint pics

what you do is base coat the entire thing, in my case I used a HOK base and then a HOK black over the whole thing, then the orien silver over the top only...after that you wet sand out the line in the body and door jambs...easy enough.
