Trailblazer Conversion (step by step)

I have been buying the pieces for this project for quite awhile now.

I got lucky about a month ago and picked up a ton of stuff from a rolled Trailblazer at the junkyard (there were 2 rolled trailblazers sat next to each other )

I have been talking to a couple of guys on the forum about troubles they had ect, and now i got started!

On friday a friend of mine came over (Kevin) and we took a little under 5 hrs of actual work to get one light in that is fully functional. It needs to still be adjusted, but that is the last of my worries.

This mod is freaking hard! i knew before i started that it would be a challenge--but it will be well worth it.

i have taken a few pics. if anyone has any questions i will be more than willing to help

Wiring was pretty easy but figuring out what needed to be cut away was pretty hard. The other light should not take as long becuase i know what to cut away from my radiator support.

Kevin.

Re: Trailblazer Conversion (step by step)

thanks for the positive reviews guys. I will take my time one it becuase i dont have much time and also i want it to look clean

The junk yard wanted $90 each for the fenders. I will just make them and weld em in for like $20. it will take a lot longer to make them....but i am still a college student living off a college students budget. lol.

Re: Trailblazer Conversion (step by step)

you are still going to need the core support off the trailblazer to weld it to your current support. Also how are you going to measure how much to cut the grill, and how will you get it back together. Have you thought about how you are going to roll the edges off the hood? The electrical part is EASY compared to the bodywork. Good luck.

i thought about getting the core support from the trailblazer and welding it in but it physically wont fit without so much modification. I just cut away at the original core support to where the plastic buckets from the trailblazer fit. Right now i just used 5 bolts to hold it in until i figure out a better way to mount it. i test drove it one night to see if the light flickered and it only flickers a little with 5 bolts in it!

Any suggestions as far as mounting the trailblazer buckets to the stock s-10 core support?

as for the grill. I will center it upon the 2 mounted lights and mark how much they extend past the light clips. The additional distance will be cut (1/2 on each side of the bowtie). I can then tape it back together and make sure it fits. After the measurments are correct i will heat the plastic up and fuse it back together, you can then sand the front side down and add bondo as needed.

The electrical part not that easy-- the turn signal has 3 wires coming from the trailblazer light and only 2 from the s-10. but apart from that everything has matched up pretty well.

The hood will be modded by someone else. i have an aftermarket fiberglass hood that i really dont want to mess up. But i am going to make the fender pieces and weld em in.

any more questions please let me know. Kevin.

Re: Trailblazer Conversion (step by step)

ok have got both lights in but they are not straight yet. I have to alter the lights a little for the grill to fit straight across but i thought i should show a progress pic.

my xennon bumper cover does not fit with the lights fitting so snug to the bumper so it will go under the knife tomorrow

wow, those pics are enough to make me want to stay away from that conversion. What the hell did you use to cut the fenders man? Tin snips and then bang the jagged edges back with a hammer?

Re: Trailblazer Conversion (step by step)

cause the trailblazer you can do relatively easy compared to the newer one. Plus the trailblazer looks good and smooth and the envoy looks like crap. www.trueambition.net or whatever that site was, has a photoshop image of it.... http://www.trueambition.net/pics/chopped/pic014.html

Re: Trailblazer Conversion (step by step)

looks time consuming...but hey how many people are running around with the older envoys and dime front ends, you will be one of the few with a TB front end, worth it in my opinon. different is good, as long as it flows with the truck, which this will (ive seen a couple finished products) good luck and definetly keep the pics coming.
