Re: Sander Question
by orbital i assume you mean a palm sander....they are both DAs,just palm sanders have a smaller orbit and are meant for finish sanding

Re: Sander Question
And just how evil is it to use a random orbital sander, instead of an air sander?
Like this one? ![]() I don't have the access to air tools like I thought I was gonna, and I'm not doing finish work with it, either. |

Re: Sander Question
well DA is just dual action. exact same thing as a random orbital. it just means the disc itself spins as the whole thing moves around. DA is what it's called in the auto body world and are normally air powered. random orbital in the wood world and are electric.

Re: Sander Question
brian,i wouldn't recommend that, but i guess you could use it....it'll get the job done but it will be awkward using that on a vehicle i think

Re: Sander Question
yeah you might wanna find a round one. idk about using the one you pictured above. i have a porter cable random orbital here at the house. it uses the same size pads as my DA.
a DA is good for experienced body guys, but if your just starting out, a block will do more for you, especially on big panels that you are trying to get straight. it's takes way more experience to do good work with just a DA. |

I'm doubting I'll keep my original bed, anyway. Worth a shot.

1/4 sheet random orbital. Not sure which model exactly, I just know mine has the gel pad on the palm area.

Re: Sander Question
Not that it matters, but nobody answered your question. DA sander is an old term that is now stuck with orbital sanders, since there are no DA palm sanders. A real "Dual Action" sander, a National Detroit DAQ or one of the million copies, can be switched into a grinder by an adjustment above the pad. I doubt many people who own DA sanders even know about the feature, but now you know.
