Input on Bed
The truck had these dents when i bought it. The previous owner had backed into something and pushed the bumper into the bed. They pulled the bumper back out straight but it was still bent on the right side so I pulled it off. the bed also has holes in it from bed rails. Should I just look for a bed in better condition or attempt to fix it? Any suggestions would be great...

Re: Input on Bed
if you have to ask if you can fix it or not, then the answer is no... you shouldnt fix it, someone like myself and some of the few other bodymen on this forum could easily fix it, but to an untrained "average joe" you could get in over your head and not repair it correctly, not to mention you probably lack the neccessary tools required
my advice: take that to a body shop, or find a new bed |

Re: Input on Bed
Well, when i said if I should attempt to fix it I meant take it to a bodyshop where someone knows more about what they are doing than me. I want to know if the price of getting all of it fixed would be worth it, or if i should just find another bed that is in better condition.

Re: Input on Bed
oh yeah, a bodyshop could easily fix that, but its up to you what you do
it also depends on what part of the country youre in, up here where i am you cant find a bed in -decent- shape for under 1000, but its not uncommon to find a flawless bed down south for 200 also keep in mind that if you do find a new bed, youll need to have it repainted |

Re: Input on Bed
Yeah, Im going to go look around for some this week. If I cant find any, I will take it to the bodyshop. I am getting the truck repainted soon anyway. Thanks for the input man.

Re: Input on Bed
It may be easier and cheaper to find another bed if you cannot do it yourself but it all depends on how much your local shops charge and if you are able to find another bed easily and cheap so it all depends. If it were mine I'd fix it myself and be done with it but you said you'd have a shop do it. I think it would be easier IMO to just keep the bed and have them fix it or else they will charge you labor to take it off and put another bed on and sand the new one down and repaint to match your cab.
The holes are easy to just weld up, grind down, smooth and prime. The dent in the rear is not bad either. |

Re: Input on Bed
1) it doesnt need a new bedside, thats easily fixable by someone capable
2) a new bedside for a 2nd gen s10 is $600.... |

Re: Input on Bed
![]() Orrrrrr...... you could insert a dent puller where ever you feel necessary and attach a chain to both the dent puller and 4 wheeler and pull dents (the puller wasnt working with me beating on it so i improvised) thats a hard spot to beat out with a hammer even with the bumper off because of the supports on the back side. round the tip on a 2X2 piece of wood stick it in there and beat the crap out of it then weld the holes from the puller shut and start working with fiberglass and bondo. All thats on page 120 from the backyard bodywork book haha Or just get a new bed.... or let a pro do it. ![]() |

Re: Input on Bed
You could buy a 94-97 bumper and cover up that nasty dent with the bumper ends.
