How-To: Headlight Peg Removal
Ok, you know those pegs on the outside of the headlight? do you ever stub your finger on it washing your truck, or maybe get caught on your wash mitt? Or just dont like them and want to get rid of them for a cleaner look? well since the sonoma headlight aftermarket is pretty much non existent, i wanted to do something that set mine apart from other people though it is a very small change i bet someone wouldnt even notice it but i dont care.
Items needed
![]() Ok these are the pegs im talking about, there are 3 on each headlight. ![]() You can even see the area around the peg where i couldnt get rid of the oxidation from when i bought the truck, these pegs got in the way of sanding and buffing. ![]() Grab the dremel and put on the cloth polishing wheel attachment. (I know the polishing wheel is not made for this type of work but its the best tool for the job.) Set the dremel on a comfortable speed setting and slowly burn the peg off being extra careful when you get closer to the headlight lens. ![]() This is what it should look like after you do a bit of contact. ![]() Ok, here we are getting closer to the lens. notice the white part on the left side as you grind down. when you are at the same level as the headlight lens this will disappear. ![]() Now you can see i shaved off more than the round circle, you can stop grinding in that area and go to another side. lightly tap the polishing wheel onto the headlight to get rid of small spots and prevent from accidentally grinding too much away. ![]() What it should look like after. ![]() now grab your 800 grit paper and start wetsanding (if you dont know how to get rid of the 800 grit scratches click here for a detailed how-to ----> http://www.s10forum.com/forum/f74/ho...lights-373596/) now you can see the high and low spots, some additional grinding may be needed depending on if you want to leave a little dimple or nothing at all. ![]() Right about here is where you want to be, looks like a little more sanding and its off to buffing. ![]() Wet sand the entire headlight with 800, then 1000 and 1500 grit. ![]() Apply some Blue magic to the entire headlight surface, try not to get any on the black trim because it is kind of hard to remove (soapy water and a rag but thats just more work you have to do in the end...) ![]() Slowly apply the Powerball to avoid slinging. ![]() Do a couple of passes and you should be here. much easier without those damn pegs in the way .![]() and there you go! not even the slightest trace of a peg. Like i said this mod wont be noticeable but for me it makes my life easier now that i dont have to worry about my wash mitt getting caught on it and now buffing my headlights (once every 2 months) is alot easier since i dont have to worry about the powerball getting destroyed by those pegs. ![]() |

Glass??? 98+ are plastic. now the old style ones maybe, if you get a dremel with a glass etching attachment. IMO its too much trouble for glass.
