Re: Green Trucks!

I posted 2 links to images of my 1997 GMC Sonoma. After looking at the pics if you are a little confused it has a 2001 S10 front clip changed because it looks better. The color I do not know the exact name it was painted daytona yellow for a base then a light spray of metalic lime green to give it the look it has now. The inerior is all painted to match. I have been trying for a while to duplicate this paint job and it has been very difficult dont recomend this color its hard to match. I will take better pictures in sunlight tomarow its getting dark so the color looks darker.

Re: Green Trucks!

Hey dagreenmonster, is your truck a gmc or did you just do a front end swap? My reason for asking is that I have a fairway green '97 reg cab fleetside s10, and I have never seen a truck just like mine here in north mississippi. Seen gmc's, stepsides, ext cabs, even a jimmy, but not one just like mine. furthermore, is this a rare color, or just in my area of the backwoods? thanks.

Re: Green Trucks!

Not a s-10, but the green was about perfect imo.
Dupont Fiesta (Del-Sol) green Kinda looked like HOK Planet green. Looked a lot better in person just had to see it to fully appreciate the color:

I thought that too, but yours has a little more yellow in it than mine judging by your pics, but the only way to really tell is side by side.

I think my bodyman has a doo-hickie that you can put against the paint on a vehicle and it'll give you the code of the paint. If yours is a custom mix then I don't know.

Re: Green Trucks!

correct. its my truck, which is blue, and i was messing with hue and saturation after i removed the handles and bumper in photoshop.
i thought that shade of green looked cool on there and figured i would start looking into painting it.
anyone seen anything close to it?

I think it's a little darker than the "army green" they made on the s10's for like 1 year.

Re: Green Trucks!

Thanks for the reply. It is a shame that this color was not put on more trucks. Mine was one of two trucks a dealer ordered for a golf scramble in Corinth, MS in april of '97(tax write off+pr stunt). They gave one away, but no one got a hole-in-one, so mine set on the lot for four months. The salesman acted as if he was glad to get rid of the truck. He talked as if a lot of people were turned off by the color of it. The color was the only reason I even stopped to look at the truck. I was looking for a car at the time. Anyways, I do remember hearing talk that the fairway green trucks were produced at two different plants. Therefore, we ended up with 2 shades of the color, with one having a little more yellow in the mix than the other.

So what color is your really?

I figured that GM had the paint all pre-mixed at one location. If not the paint color should still be the same. In one of those pics the fenders were repainted 2 years after the rest of the truck and it was the exact same color.

Re: Green Trucks!

My truck is fairway green. I've just "heard" there were two different shades. I wish there was some concrete proof of this. Maybe with enough folks help, and pics, this can be proven or disproven. My truck was built in march of '97 in shreveport,la. It would not suprise me if there are two shades of this color. GM is well known for using what ever is laying around to build a truck. Just look at the rear ends. You can have two exact trucks, one with a 7 5/8, and the other with a 8 1/2. Hell, what justifies one zq8 truck having a hop shock, and the other one not. A good painter can over come this if it were true. Just get fairway green, then adjust the mix at the shop to match the rest of the truck. Talent and skill will always prevail. I do have an old mini truck mag somewhere with a fairway green truck that does look like it has a little more yellow, or a little more gold metalic in the paint to me. It was a trailer queen though. Most likely it had been repainted. I know all of the trucks I have personally seen in north miss are exactly the same color. It was never my intention to chime in and try to start a controversy over a paint color.

Re: Green Trucks!

Yes tucks20 I did notice on my truck the base coat was a datona yellow or canary yellow then they sprayed the green. I love the color but for insurance purposes I need a shop nearby that can repaint the truck to match. I managed to find one 30 miles away that can do just that. I just made a fiberglass speaker box for the truck though and will have to get it painted im not sure if I want to paint it to match the truck or match some of the interior with gloss black. I have some new pictures posted up of my truck and my new custom speakerbox on cardomain.

Re: Green Trucks!

my base was gray primer.

does it cost a lot for paint and body where your at? Here it's cheap. I had a 94 Silverado fully repainted a different color including the door jams, behind bed/cab, and under the hood painted, plus shaving the tailgate handle, molding the pan, etc... $1250 and it was all show quality

The green one was an insurance job, but it would have ran me about $1800 to $2000 for it.
