Blue paint with orange metal flake?

I have a 2003 blazer that I'm looking to paint blue like a real dark blue and I've looked at tons of colors but I'm thinking about the HOK kandy cobalt but I'm gonna make it darker and add some metal flake to it and I was wondering how would orange metal flake look? like glow orange?

because I am in the process of buying a 1st gen I want to paint orange

my blazer isn't a true xtreme but I've done all the work to it in my garage or driveway
so far:
3 inch drop all around
fiberglass rollpan
xtreme kit
one 12 inch alpine type x

when done:
5 inch drop all around
18" 20" iroc combo
two 12 inch x's

Re: Blue paint with orange metal flake?

cobalt blue kandy is a beautiful color....but adding orange flake to it will certainly clash ....

Ya I wouldn't think it would look all that good. And paint toad knows his shit so if he says don't do it I'd probably listen to him.

Re: Blue paint with orange metal flake?

ok so now I'm thinking of doing a thicker line with like a real fire design maybe like a 3 inch line or something...then on my s10 i would put the matching design but in the blue from the blazer...how do you think that would look?

or any other ideas?

judging by his first post i was under the assumption that he wanted to add orange flake to cobalt blue kandy

Re: Blue paint with orange metal flake?

like in with the blue mixed very lightly...just for a little glow

but my whole idea is I'm gonna be building a 1st gen s10 after the blazer is closer to finished and I get better established in a job(in school for painting at the moment). The s10 will be orange and I want like opposites...orange with blue on one and blue with orange on the other

Re: Blue paint with orange metal flake?

I'm thinking i do like the orange real flames idea better now but I do like the originality of the orange flakes...but it wouldn't be like a ridiculous amount of flakes only a little bit

Re: Blue paint with orange metal flake?

i personally do not like adding anything to the kandy nor do i like putting anything on top of a kandy(besides clear)

if you want to do stuff like that then i would suggest you use a base/clear system and don't worry about a urethane kandy....

i never put anything over candy. only in or under. the effect u want, wont work like u would think. the blue will just tint the orange darker, and what ever is under will be lighter, say silver, so ull have these dark specs. it doesnt compliment the way u would think.

Re: Blue paint with orange metal flake?

i would do a blue kbc with an orange ice pearl over the top. that might work ok. or majik blue pearl. but not flake.

Re: Blue paint with orange metal flake?

ok thanks

when I did paint it, it would be by myself after a lot of practice but I would use like a silver base coat(but that would make it lighter?). and the orange section would be like taped off then to paint the orange i would tape and cover the blue to give it a smoother look...so the blue and orange wouldn't actually overlap at all

i would use different bases under the candies on each color to make the metallic look different.

look into metaljuls hok. flake like looking coarse metallic basecoat.

its kind of advanced technique to be able to tape on a kandy while shooting another one. perfection is a must, and thats at every step.

it is. but we also have had alot of economic problems. alot of people who get custom paint done, lost there ass in the housing market. so its a little slow. but im getting by.

Re: Blue paint with orange metal flake?

yea the program at school only takes one year then I can get certified and all that then I'm going to take the collision program and I've started my minor in business and after I get all that I'm gonna go for graphics design as my fall back...

but for metaljuls bases would you suggest the black diamond under the blue and the silver under the orange?

i car certified does not mean you will get insurance companies....we are drp for about every insurer out their and none of us are i-car....2 of us are ppg certified(and we've both been to color school) so we can offer a lifetime warranty on paint though

i think i need to be recertified soon but i rarely paint anymore and mikey's certification is up to date

oh...my instructor said icar is one of the things they looked for but thats all I've heard about that but I'm sure I'll get more details about it as the class goes

so I'll admit I am pretty under informed for all this so anything you guys can add is awesome!

and thanks a ton for the info so far and in advanced

insurance companies want the job done as fast and cheap as possible...they don't care about i-car and alot of shops don't care if you have i-car or not

ok wow feeling stupid for a sec the guy at the shop suggested that same color and showed it to me...its a really metallic color if I remember right...he said it would darken up when sprayed and would be a ton more metallic than my indigo

u shoot it over black. i would maybe take majic 2 to 1 with midnite. or cortez, that would give u a nice dark color.
