underhood lamp switch ? where ?
ok i have taken alot of vehicles apart and cut up many and scrapped many over the years andone thing i have never figured out yet is how the heck theunder hood lamp switch works and even where it is located ??
on my 91 someone cut the red and blackwires to it and today i reconnected them the orange one runs over to a red one with an inline rubber glass fuse holder and then runs to a distribution threaded stud block on the firewall on the pass side the black one simply runs to the cowl metal how the heck does it switch on and off when thereis no switch in the wiring? i dont get it ? thanks |

Re: underhood lamp switch ? where ?
mercury switch like in a thermostat. glass bulb with two wires on one end and when the hood is lifted the liquid mercury rolls down and makes contact allowing current to pass. Simple but genius

Re: underhood lamp switch ? where ?
hummmmm.... wel damn lol
so..... what its on the light assembly itself then apparently hmm hm so mercury is technically a metal and therefore should be conductive so yeah that makes sense thermostats for furnaces use them and they work sooo.. hmm another mystery solved how amusing! thanks!
