swapping out gauge clusters, need help!

Alright, not sure if this is the right forum for this but i have a 93 s10 and i have a lt1 with a wiring harness built from Currentpeformance and i wanted to know if its possible to swap in a syclone/typhoon gauge cluster. I know they fit in the dash b/c they are the same besides the setup of the actual gauges, but i didnt know if the wiring harness i have would be compatible and vis versa the cluster being compatible. I dont want to go and get one if i can and it not work. I want all the lights, gauges and all to be working soi dont have to have a tach strapped to my steering column, a temp gauge mounted to the dash, ect.

I am looking for a clean look.

Does any of the factory gauges work now? If they do, then it should swap over. When I went to the digital cluster from analog, all I had to do was swap the cluster connector. I know that the tach would be off but the rest of them should work normal.

yes everything works on my gauge right now, but the temp gauge. That might just be burnt out. But reading over on syty.net, they read off it as being a v6 and me being a v8, would that be a problem? Though they did say there might be a way to compute it into the ECM.

Well I assume that the cluster you are using now is the factory cluster for a v6 so the sy/ty cluster should still work. I know that a guy on here is using a digital cluster from a v6 on a v8. All the gauges work correctly except the tach. I have read somewhere that you can change the resistor in the cluster so that the tach will read correctly. I don't know which resistor you would need.

gotcha, yea i had to get a reluctar ring and mount it on the d/s to get my speedo to work, but that was the only thing that didnt work on the gauges with the v8, well that was the trans i had not the acutall motor.

Re: swapping out gauge clusters, need help!

You could always make your own cluster with autometer(or whatever manufacturer you prefer) gauges and get a clean look. All you need is some abs plastic. The only thing I worry about for you is the ability and/or cost of the typhoon/cyclone cluster. It's a rare vehicle and would be hard to find a junker and you definately don't want to buy it from gm. Good luck whatever you do.

well istill want to keep the stock'ish look to it. And i also want to still have my ''check engine light'' since i dont know how to read a problem from the gauges alone, lol

Re: swapping out gauge clusters, need help!

Yeah I can understand wanting to stay 'stockish' but i wish i had pics of my dads 85 monte carlo ss before he sold it. i did a custom made cluster in his car with a sheet of abs and his desired gauges(and it blew the stock out of the water, plus we got ss imprint in the gauge). Autometer and most other aftermarket gauge manufacturers make warning lights as well that you can wire up to do the same thing as a 'service engine soon' light, that's what we did. Also you can have your speedo read up to 200 mph and if you have an lt1 than runs good and you drag it ocassionaly it will give you better/more info not to mention you can get mini lights and memorize shift points using them. I will see if I can find you some liks of them and you can compare your options as far as the cyclone cluster goes call your local gm parts supplier and request that item and then ask them for the compatability to your vehicle, they'll tell you whether it works or not. Then go from there.

Re: swapping out gauge clusters, need help!

get a tach calibrator.... the factory sy/ty tach will read crank speed for a v6, which is not the same as a v8... i have one from autoloc from my lt1. 50 and its urs
