Power window switch wiring

Alright ive searched for this a few times. I know how the window motors are wired and how the stock switches are wired. But my second driver side window switch has crapped out. The autopart store switches are trash and are still 30 bucks a piece. Im trying to avoid buying another one that will fall apart. What i want to know is there any way to wire the window motors to regular ole toggle switches. I tried it with a regular 3 pole switch and no luck. Anyone ever done this or could give me some help would be great. thanks in advance

Re: Power window switch wiring

i used a 6 pole toggle switch from a switchbox i had laying around.
Its really simple to wire up.

hook a positive and negative to the middle poles for the power to the switch
hook a positive and negative to the bottom poles
now go from the bottom poles with the positive and negative, hook them to the top poles opposite from each other.
a window motor has 2 wires, both wires are a positive and negative.
all you do is touch them one way to go down and you touch them the opposite way to go up. I hope this makes since to you.

it makes perfect sense, i last idea was a six prong but i didnt know how to wire it up, thanks alot man, im gonna give it a try tomorrow and ill hit you back up if i have any questions

but just hook the wires from the motor to one set of prongs, and then just jump them to opposite posts on the other side?

yup, its that easy. all your doing is reversing the polarity of the wires, which will reverse the directon of the motor. just be sure to use the top and bottom prongs of the switch for the window motor. the center prongs are for power and ground.

Re: Power window switch wiring

thanks alot

Re: Power window switch wiring

alright so i wired up the driver side switch today to two six prong switchs. Everything went great but i still dotn have a functioning passenger side window. The passenger side door still has the original "stock" switch. But i have a few things i need to check before i say the motor is fried on that side b/c the switch wired to that side ive had sitting around for a long time and never used it and it kinda hangs up in one spot, so it may just be bad. Later tonight when its not 100* im gonna go swap the switches around and see if i can get the pass window rolling. If that doesnt work im going to wire up a switch straight to the pass motor to see if its something screwy in the stock wiring. So IDK but now that you gave me that great wiring run down on the switch i can trouble shoot and redo the whole window setup if need be. thanks a lot again

your welcome, but one question... Are you using 2 six prong switches on the drivers side only?

Re: Power window switch wiring

yea, the reason for this is i have full intention of moving them to either my dash or console and just moving the driver side harness and not using the pass side switch at all. I hate the switches on the doors. But its not the switches. i checked them, im pretty sure my window motor on that side is dead

Re: Power window switch wiring

just run a hot and negative to the motor itself to be sure its the motor. You can get the + and - from the battery. I doesn't matter which wire you use for the + or the -. They are both + and -.
