Question Motorized License Plate Device HELP

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out how to make a motorized (up & down) license plate tag. I've thought about using a motorized antenna from a Caddy, or mabye a window motor, and make my own tracks for it.... I was planing to use a rocker swtich to move the plate up and down. I'm just not sure what to use and from which vehicle to get a window motor from and if an antenna motor would do the job right and last. I was wanting to install it inside the tailgate and have it come out the top of the tailgate, and make an access panel to install it and hide it inside the tailgate. I have searched on here for about a day and a half now. I havn't really seen any pics or descriptions on how to do it, or what to use to get the best results. I know that AVS use to make a License plate retracter kit awhile back, but they seem to no longer make one. So, I guess with some helpful advice and maybe some pics from you guys. Maybe I can make my own Motorizrd license plate device.

Re: Motorized License Plate Device HELP

i got a few PMs about this here is more info

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Metra+-+...=1218105187727

they used that type of motor. the top of the antenna that goes up and down has a ball at the end of it..heat it up with a torch and it will come off. you will need to cut off the wires so all you have left is two wires. if i remember correctly red and green. they would enclose the antenna itselfs inside 1/2" airline that had 3/8" airline inside of it. that way it was more durable.

Re: Motorized License Plate Device HELP

is your truck bagged? if so you can get an air cylinder for about $20-25 then plus a control valve. this could take care of the lifting and lowering. this size cylinder is only about 3/4" diameter with a stroke of about 6"

it mounts with just bolts and nuts. Nothing fancy. Wires were simple as well. Power and Ground from motor to a toggle/rocker switch.

What the hell is a BB track?

If you wanted to go super low tech you could get a spring loaded gear driven set up like you see in some cigaret lighters or over head compartments.

Honestly. Forum registration should require a 'knowledge of how to use google' test.

I searched that before i posted that the first time. i couldnt find any that went up/down. most of them are like the "flip-up radio" style where it slides out, then pivots up. you mount them to the bottom side of your bumper.

Re: Motorized License Plate Device HELP

Regardless, you should make your own. The cheapest kit I saw was about $105 + shipping! Crazy! You can make your own for under $15.

I have already looked thru yahoo and google and they all came up with the same thing your trying to show me..... I'm not trying to make one like that, that attaches to the front bumper and moves that way. If you would have read the earlier post you would have read that I am looking to make a retractable/motorized license plat tag deal like A V S use to make. But thanks just the same for your input.
