led light bulb comparison

this post will be list of leds that i would recommend you using if you don't like my recommendations pick something similar for the same effect
as always please check your bulbs before you order...this is from my experience and i may not know everything about what fits where...so check first..and if you don't know pm me a picture with the lights you want to replace
194 gauge lights
in white
http://www.v-leds.com/Shop/Control/P...id/0/SFV/32481
blue
http://www.v-leds.com/Shop/Control/P...id/0/SFV/32481
194 tag lights these should work best in all applications that the lights aim right at the tag
http://www.v-leds.com/Shop/Control/P...id/0/SFV/32481
dome light...few option and they all depend on $$
i will start off $ and go to $$$ the first ones i did not test..
http://www.v-leds.com/Shop/Control/P...id/0/SFV/32481
the pic can be seen in this thread of these
http://www.v-leds.com/Shop/Control/P...id/0/SFV/32481
two of these will fit in a standard dome light but need to be spliced together or one is just as good

led light bulb comparison

we now get a discount from v-leds.com
enter in s10forum in the promo code to get 10% off...
buy from the direct do not use ebay

i have a few different led bulbs and i figured i would do some real world testing in gauges...i also am in touch with a company that sells led bulbs and i should be receiving a good amount of bulbs to show you guys what they look like in different lenses and gauges so you can pick the one you like best...instead of guessing what they look like.
so first test is in a auto-meter pressure gauge...
this gauge relies on light to travel around the gauge face to light up the front
i have right now a
regular bulb
and three led ones

i will start it off with the regular bulb

and with a one second shutter speed

next is a forward facing led with two leds made by piaa

and a one second shutter speed

now the flat top led

and with the once second shutter speed

now the five led one with 360 degree lighting

one second shutter speed

the only led bulb that worked very well was the one with the 360 degree lighting...
i got them from this vendor
http://www.v-leds.com/Shop/Control/fp/SFV/32481
and this is the link to the bulb
http://www.v-leds.com/Shop/Control/P...id/0/SFV/32481

i must say i am impressed with the light output..and the pics do not lie..now i could have gotten better results from the dimmer ones by keeping the shutter open but then the results would not be true...

now this is just for gauges...i am going to test them one by one in a plate lights and in the front corner lights on both 94-97 and 98+

as well as test more along with taillight and blinker bulbs
comments? questions?

all these bulbs were paid for out of my pocket and nothing swayed my opinion other then results

thread update!
the company v-leds gave us 10% off our orders...

Great info. I had tried some LEDs in my gauges when I first got them and was not impressed at all. This helps to eliminate all the guess work and trial and error situations. Thanks for spending your time to save us some.

well the company i am getting the bulbs from only has blue or white leds for the 211-2 (festoon) application.. but there are others out there...if you are in need of them you can get some from www.autolumination.com

i have used ones similar with good results...

Thanks Brian. I edited my post cuz I was like oh crap this is only for the 194 someone is going to flame me. Thats what I couldnt find is ones that shined both ways. Due to with the single sided which ever way you point it either its looks kinda like to lines in the housing when you face them out or it really dim when you face them in.

its fine this is just the start of the testing...so yeah i will have no problem if the vendors agree so i can show you guys what they look like in your applications..

i know what you are talking about and i wish someone would have tested them in the first place...since you have no idea how they are going to look in the housing...

these are what i used in my cluster, i got them for free so it was no question, there was one dark spot that i used one of the extras and just wired it into the area where it was dark.

ill try to get some pics tonight. i am happy with them in the cluster, i wonder how they would work in a gauge.

Good comparo brian!
Im interested to see the 360's in a gauge cluster too. The single foward facing LED looks good in a cluster, but, wonder what a 360 or flat top would look like!

Also, like we talked about in the other thread, i got my LEDs with the 6-facing in the mail the other day for my sidemarker/backup lights. In a day or two, ill do a comparo with halogen 194, sinlge led, and 6 led and email you my results if you like?

most led bulbs do not dim well since they work on way less voltage...
