This is a how to for installing Express-down windows in your first S-Series.
This option is for lazy people that can't press the window buttons for 15 seconds to roll down the windows. :rotfl Difficulty: 3/10 (10 hardest) Install at your own risk as this involves a little wiring work. What you will need: 1. Phillips screwdriver 2. Door panel puller if needed 3. soldering iron and solder (if you want) 4. Shrinkwrap or electrical tape 5. Wire strippers 6. Beer (optional) 7. 30 minutes 8. 1 or 2 Express Down modules Go to the junkyard and find 1 or 2 1993-1998 or so C or H body GM - LeSabre, Park Avenue, 88, 98, Bonneville and pull the driver's door panel. You will find a black box. That's what you need. Grab it, the plastic mount and a length of wiring. Here's what it looks like: ![]() Now that you have it, you can start to installing it. You can have just the driver's side or do what I did and have BOTH windows express down. Pull the door panel. 2 phillips (usually) screws in the recessed area of the arm rest, 3 screws holding the side trim and then it just pops off. Unplug the window control. SOME WIRES MAY BE A DIFFERENT COLOR AS THEY VARY FROM YEAR TO YEAR AND CAR TO CAR. BUT THE WIRE PERFORM THE SAME FUNCTIONS. THESE COLORS ARE WHAT WAS ON MY MODULES AND WIRING DIAGRAM. I got mine from a pair of 1994 Bonnevilles. Please refer to the connector letter as to what wires go where. These were installed on a 1991 S10 BLAZER. Now find the PINK wire and tap into it. You'll want to find the BROWN wire from A on the connector. There are TWO brown wires - A is for power to the module. This is the same for driver's and passenger side. Cut the BROWN wire - driver's side - from the switch to the motor. This will be in slot G on the window control connector. Hook the GRAY wire from Slot B of the window module to the brown wire. Now tap in to the DARK BLUE wire and add in the DARK BLUE wire to the module. You do not need to cut it, just tap in to it. Next, hook the BROWN wire from the module to the BROWN wire going to the window motor, you cut this earlier. Now find a place to mount the module using the plastic tab. I mounted mine on the inside of the door so the door panel won't interfere with it. For the passenger side: Tap into the PINK wire and use the BROWN wire from tab A of the window module. Instead of the DARK BLUE wire, you will want to tap into the DARK BLUE/WHITE wire with the DARK BLUE wire from the module. Cut the TAN wire. And connect the GRAY wire to the end going to the window switch. Connect the BROWN wire of the module to the tan wire going to the window motor. Find a place to mount the module. NOW, turn the key to on and try your Express Down window(s). If everything is working correctly, put it all back together and enjoy! Recap: 4 wires on the module: REMEMBER: YOUR MODULE MAY CONTAIN DIFFERENT COLOR WIRING SO GO BY LETTER ON THE CONNECTOR IF IT DOES. A - BROWN - tap in to the PINK wire from each window control. (Do not cut these wires) B - GRAY - Splice to BROWN (driver's side) and TAN (Pass side) wires going FROM the window switch. C - DARK BLUE - tap into the DARK BLUE (driver's side) and DARK BLUE/WHITE wires going FROM the window switch. (Do not cut these wires) D - BROWN - Splice to BROWN (driver's side) and TAN (Pass side) wires going TO the window motor. And here is a crappy video of it working. That's very clever. I will have to do that when I install my power windows.

Re: Installing Express-down windows in your first gen S10.
couldn't you use one module for down and one for up? Or am I missing something here? I would do much better if I could see it in front of me. On list for next trip to pull a part.

Good writeup. I wish my truck had power windows. the only vehicle I own that has power windows is my Lumina Euro, and every time I put the driver's side window down it ****ing falls out

Re: Installing Express-down windows in your first gen S10.
im a step ahead, i just got a module for my alarm so it will roll my windows up when i arm it, then just added a switch for when i want to roll them down. but that is cooler cus you can use factory switches and roll them down separately.
edit. can you pull one of those modules from a vehicle that has the express down Last edited by Mr.woodscrewsNbondo : 10-23-2009 at 11:05 AM. |

Great write-up AustinBlazer, I figured I would add this for us visual learners.
For those of you who, like me, want to see a wiring schematic, here you go. This is a 94 bonneville btw. ![]() |

Re: Installing Express-down windows in your first gen S10.
Well, I added express up and down to my truck. Took four modules, got them all for $1 each. Two in each door, simple installation. And my keyless entry already is wired to put both my windows up or down. So this was a nice install, and for the passenger side, either my switch or the passengers will work with express up and down. For those of you who do not know how to wire in two modules for up and down, here is how I did it. Take two modules (1 & 2) and wire: 1A to 2A. 1B to 2C. 1C to 2B. Do not wire D to eachother. Okay, the install is about the same as Original poster. Both pin A's go to the (+12V) power wire. 1B & 2C go to the switch side for up. 1C & 2B go to the switch side for down. 1D goes to window side for up. 2D goes to window side for down. It doesn't matter which module is 1 or 2, just make sure that you wire the same module for either up or down. Otherwise your window will work in reverse of the switch. |

Re: Installing Express-down windows in your first gen S10.
Don't know, never tried to find out, I don't put my hands in the way of the windows. And I would like to have the fancy 530t's, but for 4 dollars, I can't beat the price.
