This setup sounds and looks like it's so easy to install and wire. A lot easier than my car alarm. So what source would you use the back up for, i mean do you have to have a 12v source. Just wondering because i don't want to break glass.

the pre-wired kit has a backup made for you that you can run to anywhere.

No it's a couple wires that are meant to have power run to them + and - then it'll pop open your doors, or at least one anyways. lol

our kit for the older s10 is similiar but installs slightly different...

loosen the nut little bit then try it..you may have it too tight

this kit is great just installed it on my 4 door and love it but i did run in to a lil problem with the dome light if any one has the same problem just leve all the plugs out of the latch and your good to go. well thats is you have the plugs ..lol

I have everything wired up, bolted in, set and everything, but i can't figure out why the remotes don't work. i called the tech guy and he told me how to program it, but the red light never turns on with the 12 volt source. i think the 12 channel brain is dead or something. any advice?

haha sadly no. i went through all my connections like 3 times, tested it all, and yea, its just not working. i mean i tried to reprogram and im not even getting the red light from the reciever when i apply direct power. yea i just bought a new reciever and hopefully that will fix it. until then i'll just keep checking everything and looking for problems. you don't think its in the relay box isnt putting power towards the box? i thought that for a while till i tried to reprogram. who knows. i got all week to mess with it. maybe i'll figure it out... i'll let you know if i do.

what exactly do you mean? this attaches right to the door latch and takes care of everything in the door. all you gotta do is hook it up to your alarm/remote

the AVS ones from AVS themselves. they should be as good of a quality part as the bolt in ones. better than solenoids IMO

I was wondering. It would be possible to install the actuator first and then shave the handle later, right? I don't have access to all of the tools to do bodywork right now, so I was thinking of installing them and leaving the handles until I could shave em. But with this kit, it eliminates the ability for the door to lock, so I don't know if this idea would be possible.

yeah you could do that. you take out all the rods except the interior handle one. all the outside handle will do is cover the hole in your door until you actually shave it. i'm actually gonna do it that way on my buddy's vw golf, get all the inside stuff working first before i pull the handles off and weld in fillers

I did that, only problem I had was that the handle got in the way of the door pusher so it didn't pop out all the way.

depending on where you put the pusher. I popped out the black plastic filler on the door itself. In the spot the bolt of the pushe will hit the handle so it doesn't compress all the way. It'll pop it open but not all the way, it'll "half latch" again almost like you didn't close the door all the way. Just make sure your there when you pop it and you're all good

yeah i've got about 2 years on the kit and it hasn't failed me yet. pops everytime. and the emergency wires on the pre wired relays came in handy once or twice
