Re: hooking up a custom tach on 92 chevy s10

What kind of options does it have to be considered an ss?

Now pull back the carpet as shown, and gently bring down the ECM wiring harness. Look for the white connector taped to the harness. Find the solid white wire going into it. Tap into that white wire and that is the connection for the tach. There is no need to go to the coil or into the engine bay.

On a first gen 1992 its actually an off white colored wire. No connector,it just runs through the firewall in that harness, its the only off white/dirty white colored wire.

Did the OP say it was an SS? If so he must have edited that part out! Your question now seems like it is out of left field!

Man O man!
No guy, someone stuck SS badges on your truck, the first SS S10 was built as a 94 model, not 92.
Sorry laydout,I was coming from left field!

Re: hooking up a custom tach on 92 chevy s10

Did you not find that connector in the picture? If no, keep looking. If yes, look closely, there will be a white wire that goes into the connector but does not come out the other side of the connector. That is the tach wire. I know this wire is there. I have a 92 with a 4.3. Mine was right where the picture shows you.

I dunno man. That is the right connector and that is the right wire. I have my tach hooked up there and it works perfectly.

I agree...

On a lot of vehicles theres already an extra wire there for installing the tach to anyways, so you dont have to cut anything

Re: hooking up a custom tach on 92 chevy s10

Ok have a question... And I am sure you have answered this already but please try to bare with me.

I have a 1993 GMC Jimmy with a 4.3L V6 and I am trying to install a Mallory tach. I think I have found the "white wire" to hook to the signal (green) wire on the take, that I have been reading about to hook it up to but I have read so many different ways of hooking it up I am getting a little lost...

... So in other words, I am just looking for some guidance on hooking up the signal wire on the tach... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
