Your best option is to upgrade to a front end with composite headlights. You can then do a retro from there. If you don't want to do a retro, you can put a pnp kit into a composite headlight. I wouldn't bother with trying to do a H4 conversion.

Re: Everything you ever wanted to know about HID's

You can find some on ebay or lmc. I'm sure there is other lighting sites that make them also.

It's not too hard to make your own.

you wont need new headlights but if you want them to match then go for it. ebay them though.

Re: Everything you ever wanted to know about HID's

Great thread ! Simple question - Are all envoy headlights plug and play retro fits ? I have a 99 Sonoma and was thinking about putting in 2000 Envoy headlights in with the fogs but it doesn't seem like anyone is doing that. Is 98 the way to go ? Thanks

Yes, that would be the easiest way to do it. If you use OEM parts it will plug into your stock harness, although I'd still make a harness to be on the safe side.

has anyone done the pnp kit on the aftermarket projector housings for 1st gens? i ordered a set of 8k pnp hids today. i am hoping that with the projector lens in there it will help cut out the glare. the bulbs that came with them suck!

Re: Everything you ever wanted to know about HID's

It depends on what you want to do.
you can just PnP hid kits or do a full set up like the OP.f
(PnP hid kits in halogen projector housing put out a lot of glare, FYI)

im making a redesigned shield for the projector to make the output with less/no glare.

Re: Everything you ever wanted to know about HID's

My bro told me that with the automatic headlights that I have on my S10, they can hurt the HID's because of the surge that happens when you turn on your truck. Does anyone know what I'm talkin about? Any truth to this?

Thanks

Re: Everything you ever wanted to know about HID's

reduced intensity is it sends less voltage to the headlamps causing them to be dimmer.

Re: Everything you ever wanted to know about HID's

I was thinking about buying 88-93 Chevy S10 Projector Headlights
Black (pair) + HID Xenon Lights Kit Package from xtralights.com and i was wondering if anyone has bought these or something simmilar? I was going to get the 8000k (deep Blue) and wanted to know if the light shines blue on the road as if you just painted the blubs blue or they just look blue when you drive by like the ones on a bmw or something? thanks very much

they sell(on ebay)a H4 conversion kit which allows you to convert those ugly sealed beames to h4 hid's. you need to add a relay to drive the circuit or it will flicker from time to time and one side may shut down periodicaly. depending on the quality of the hids. you should still always add a relay to the circuit. check out mine on my old school blazer

Dont do it... from PERSONAL experience with those, they suck... they are not true projectors, they dont have any type of cut-off shield, and the lens is so small it cant really bend the light to have decent width, and the bowl behind the lens is so small, its basically like having a mag light lens on your truck...

all kidding aside, a set of autozone sealed beam replacement lights were brighter than those h4 projectors, with a relay, and 80W bulbs...

do what you want though...

No, it wont look like a bmw, any factory xenon car is going to be 4100K light, and the color ONLY comes from light bending around the cut-off shield. To get the "look of a bmw" you will need 4100K HID's with a set of BMW porjectors retro'ed in.

read my previous post about the H4 projector crappy things...

I had those "QB" blue bulbs, they got me 3 tickets for "displaying blue lights," and as i think back I'm so glad i got rid of them for my 6000k.
