Dome light shorted out
It's a 91 and my dome/horn fuse blows as soon as I replace it. I haven't found the short but I did some poking around with the multimeter.
The orange wire that goes to the dome light is connected to ground and the white one is connected to ground when the dome light switch is turned on. I also tested the dimmer switch plug and the 2 left and far right terminals are ground. Any idea what the problem is? |

Re: Dome light shorted out
you could try disconnecting the horn, isolating if that's the problem or not. Jerk out the horn relay and if the fuse still blows you know its the dome.

Re: Dome light shorted out
I'm looking for the convenience center that has the horn relay but I can't find it. The chilton manual says it's under the instrument panel to the right of the steering column but I looked under the dash and it's not there. Do I have to remove the gauge cluster to get to it or what? Any pics of where it is? I disconnected the dome light wire and that's not the problem.

Re: Dome light shorted out
Found the horn relay above the hood release, pulled it, didn't fix anything. My guess is my truck is evil and is just ****ing with me for it's own amusement. I tested all the receptacles on my fuse box and most of them are ground. Is it supposed to be like that?

Re: Dome light shorted out
Really?
At the fuses you have ground? If you pulled the horn relay and no fix, then start at the interior fuse panel, check for voltage on both sides. If yes, follow the wiring up in the headliner and into the switch/light. If no, see if it goes from the underhood PDC, if it does check to see the supplying fuse has B+ on each side. If no, then find out where it comes from. Check to see where a wire most likely was pinched, screwed, or chaffed to a ground source. |
