Compass/thermometer rear view mirror

I just got a rear view mirror with a thermometer and compass out of an 02 tahoe. Has anyone wired one up in a second gen?

Re: Compass/thermometer rear view mirror

Yep. You need the temp sensor that goes on the radiator support to make the temp work. Run two wires from the temp sensor to the mirror. Look on the back of your mirror and there should be a model number like GNTX something. Google that for wiring diagrams since they vary slightly from model to model and wire coloring. Just run power and ground besides the temp sensor wires and you're good to go.

Re: Compass/thermometer rear view mirror

Yeah I got the temp sensor too. I'll look on the mirror when I get home but I think there is seven wires coming from it. Thank you

Re: Compass/thermometer rear view mirror

I have installed a few of those in place of reg mirrors.

most of the time i only use 4 wires. 2 for temp and 1 for pwr and 1 for ground.

Re: Compass/thermometer rear view mirror

I first picked up a compass only auto dim out of a caddy and then found an aftermarket Gentex compass/temp auto dim. Junkyard only charged like $5 each.

Re: Compass/thermometer rear view mirror

There's quite a few GM's that use the auto dim compass mirrors. It's a little harder finding the compass/temp ones. I got luck finding this one. The newer full sizes have a 2 line display so it shows both at once. Mine is a single line and you push a button on the mirror to switch back and forth. It'll be redundant once I get my short overhead console installed. I'll probably keep the mirror with the temp display and use the console for the compass and other stuff.

I just picked up one today from an 03 Silverado, and there was another one at the same yard with temp/compass.

Re: Compass/thermometer rear view mirror

well i have one of these waiting to be installed..

Just cant get the factory damn mirror off the windshield...

Do i need special tools or what?

The guy who tinted my blazer cracked the windshield getting it off, cause he claimed it had been glued back on before and the glue made it crack. sounded like a BS story for him not knowing how to properly remove it.

Re: Compass/thermometer rear view mirror

Can't believe he cracked it, half the time at junk yards I just yank them off and have never cracked a windshield from doing it. But yes, you need a small screwdriver or something to slid up in the slot and push against the retaining clip. It might take a lot of force to move the clip as it's a different design. I prefer the styles with the set screw for a reason.

Re: Compass/thermometer rear view mirror

Yeah...I damn near cracked my windshield because that damn clip didn't want to let loose. The aftermarket one I have has a set screw which is stupid easy to take on and off.
